There won't be any new taxes until the election, During the election whoever wins will promise no new taxes then when they get in say oops and increase taxes.
I take it the PM does not want all these businesses to be around whenever the country finally opens up. These businesses are making decisions today so that they can open when allowed and re-hire their employees. Everybody knows that whenever this country opens things will not be the same as before, as their are no tourists. This means businesses know they will be seeing greatly reduced sales for a while, which will make it harder to be in business. The PM did what all politicians have done, to take away from their great failures they try and get the population to blame others. Maybe Government should say if these companies keep their people employed even though they are home they can allocate the salary against any fees due to Government (VAT, Business License, duty etc). But i highly doubt that.
We all know how this will end (it will involve a broom and a rug). They have the evidence so no need for an investigation, but they always say this when they already know the outcome.
I have to give credit to NIB, i applied last week and received this week, all done online. Could there be an issue with the bank account details given If wrong the funds will end up in limbo before being returned to NIB which in turn could take a long time. In addition if this is for people who have been temporarily laid off then their company must also send a form in. Either way hope it gets corrected soon, and hope Government opens us up again so i can come off NIB.
This is terrible. The government should immediately spend at least $20 million to fix this instead of helping Bahamians who are suffering in Bahamas right now (spoken in my MP's voice)
Wouldn't it be wise of the Government to maybe give BPL $100 million to buy oil now at these cheap price? This would save the Bahamian consumer a large amount of money which the Government can demand gets paid back over the time this fuel is bought in. Or would that be too smart, and it would be better to give BPL the $100 million over a couple years to fund their excessive workforce.
I read in the other Newspaper that work permit holders are not entitled to the unemployment benefit. Whilst this does not affect me, how is this right. As ,long as these people have paid what is due they should be entitled to what benefits there are. If they are not then they should reduce their contributions.
Fully agree. Realtors are always begging Government to reduce the tax they take but never willing to reduce what they take. the 6 and 10% were brought in when most property sold for much less. Now People like Mr. Christie can sell a $10 million property in Lyford, or Ocean Club and pocket $600,000. And they can do this more then once a year. So please stopping playing poor and reduce your fees as thats more annoying then paying Government .
I actually thought this was a good speech. Initially i was worried based on the other speeches when some major changes have occurred in the space of hours. But this time he realized the mistakes previously made and didn't do too many changes. Hopefully by May 4th we can start re-opening the country. Though until tourists come back we will still be in major problems. Government should consider a major infrastructure investment, if only to get people working during this time.
