And many more will follow. In a few years we will be able to look back and see which option we feel was the right one, but as of now the economic impact is starting to snowball as more companies realize this will not be over soon, and many owners are running out of money with no options left to take.

Its not bold. Its trying to hide from the virus. Effectively we are going to shut every time there is a spike. So then there is no point in opening. Just shut it all down. I am sure we will all be ok. Or you could try to have the police enforce the social distancing laws. if a restaurant is found to not be doing what they should close that one down. If people are at the beach in large groups arrest and fine them. What he has done is the easy way out, in the hope that in a couple of weeks he can re-open and there will be no more spread. Chances of that are very low.

Dawes says...

Just isolate yourself. Come out in a couple years when it may be over.

Hmm so the tourists that have come over since we re-opened have not helped our economy ? Thats surprising. Are they not spending any money? Go to Exuma it is packed with Tourists, same with eleuthera. There are some in Nassau as well, how are they here if they are not contributing to our economy?

Dawes says...

Someone wealthy enough to weather the coming economic storm. lucky you

Dawes says...

Sure, but not opening means they definitely can't come.

I agree for once with the writer. We are in a hard place. We put all out eggs in the tourism basket and now are paying the price. Yes it would be great to do something else economically, but that will take a while to do for out economy (and what would this be, manufacturing won't really work as it will always be cheaper to buy from outside, and farming sounds great but I am fairly sure most do not want to be out in the hot sun all day). So do we keep shut until the vaccine/cure or virus disappears or run the risk and try and get the economy going again. I know with the current rates of death and who it is hitting i would choose to open. But others may say don't, we could move all of them to an island and then isolate them until this is all over, whilst the rest of us work and try to make the money needed to fund their isolation.

Don't worry Bannister, Bahamians have been paying millions and no doubt billions due to Governments inefficiencies and lack of will to tackle the issues at most of these organisations.

Dawes says...

Surprised the letter writer did not also advocate us closing down all bars and restaurants. In fact close everything except food stores and pharmacy which we can go on certain days (say using our last name). Closing the beach to protect us is a stick man argument, as there is plenty other places that should be closed too.

Dawes says...

Why not just tell everyone to read your last warning and that of the PM a couple years back. It worked so well then, i am sure it will work this time as well
