Part of the problem is the port department makes it hard for you to license your boat. You have to go down tot he port department and register, then they will tell you someone will call to inspect your boat. Then that day will come and you will need to be able to leave wherever you are and go to your boat to show them. Then you go back to the port to get your license. If you want you can also take your boat to the port department and hope it can be seen (note only weekdays). If they just said that on this weekend we will deal with this dock and then next this one etc etc until all or got it would be much easier.

Its hard for Junkanoo to attract tourists. mainly as until the day of no-one knows whether it will occur or not, and tourists will probably not be able to stay an extra day or two until the rain/winds are gone. I went to the boxing day parade this year and all the tourists i saw did enjoy it, though what % of the people on the boats came off to watch i do not know.

I was just pointing out they were not told about the $0.25 fee until much later in the game after they had worked out what was needed to get to June 30th when the ban comes into effect. Anyway like i said won't matter in a couple of months.

In talking with some people involved in business they tell me they were not told about the $0.25 until late in the year, by which time they had worked out how much bags to have to get them to June 30th when they would have no more. In addition they were also promised by Government that the alternate bags would be duty free which has either not occurred or only just occurred which is too late for ordering purposes. Anyway in 6 months this will all be over and we can all find something else to complain about. Maybe by then Sands will have been able to change what foods are price controlled and we can complain that the unhealthy food is now more expensive.

Sums up this country. We all know the problems and see the ones coming and yet do nothing until the last second, by which time its often too late. I was thinking this on my drive to work as the roads become more and more blocked with traffic. Government won't do anything to alleviate it until complete gridlock.

Which is why its a start, this allows the companies to deplete their stocks and people to get used to bringing their own. I am sure though that you would complain if they were outright gone, just for the sake of complaining.

Dawes says...

Its to encourage you to bring your own bags. They are banned for importing and in 6 months you will not be able to buy them. But if you don't want to buy a simple solution is to bring your own.

I think the letter writer must have been in hiding for the last year. Pretty much everywhere has been giving out free reusable bags all year. But hey if the letter writer is happy with eating all those foods with plastic in it and then not worrying about the effect then sure keep using plastic bags. If he wants he can go and buy then by the thousands to ensure he has a life time supply.
