Yet again another example of it being better for you to not pay then it is to pay. The people who pay each month will be the ones who suffer the most, those that don't BPL will not punish. Same as real property,. same as basically everything Government does.
Everyone knows that once this deal is done and with an election coming BPL will be used yet again to employee voters. In 10 years we will be back to square one with an even bigger debt to pay. All Governments have been very quick to tax/charge us to make up for shortfalls they have (or the quasi companies have) but never deal with the issue that got us there. As such if i was rating the bond it would be at the worthless level.
Unfortunately it will get worse. This Government is the same as all others, when things look bad for them they will bring out one of the three bogey men. Those being immigrants (Haitians in particular), sissies and the white man. It helps as too many of us Bahamians are easily swayed by them making it seem as these 3 groups are the problem, rather then the Government (be it FNM or PLP) who have contributed to nearly all our social ills over the last 40 years. But as long as we fall for it they won't change and will continue on their corrupt ways until we collapse.
Whats does Mr. Turnquest mean by " the event would likely transfer the costs of rebuilding and restoration to the government and Bahamian taxpayer"? Is he saying that the Government is going to cover the cost to rebuild private properties? If so i will cancel my insurance now and rely on Government to cover me, as i will be dammed if i will pay insurance and then extra taxes for those who didn't insure.
If there's anything wrong they will just look for a fall guy, and then have the police do an investigation for a couple of months to make it look like they are actually doing something (like the BEC one a couple years ago). Whilst all along they really would only have to ask the Dutch (this time last time it was the Americans and French) who did what wrong. Then it will be back to normal.
Fully agree, just wish more people would realize this. In addition the fact that people get a pay rise no matter their productivity is also killing business.
Problem for the constituency is we vote for party not person. And unfortunately we really vote to keep the other side out. If things don't change 2022 is going to be another elcetion of who you don't want. Just wish DNA could get going and get out there as i am willing to give them a chance over the other two parties who are just twiddledum and twiddledee
Because of politics. The government were desperate to have a good news item so they decided to make COB into UB. To do that they also needed the president to be sufficiently qualified. Of course this person has to be Bahamian (for Political reasons it would look bad). So they looked overseas for a Bahamian and finally found someone who then said yes but you need to pay me an amount i would get if this were the US. Of course as it wasn't their money they said sure.
