Sounds like Customs is not living up to there part. If they are meant to be releasing it straight away and they are not then it is them that are the hold up. Too often Government works out these new plans but their officers do not do what they are meant to do. Of course by holding up the shipments it probably increases the amounts the brokers are willing to pay.

Then you should question the Bahamian Government as to why they are not warning their citizens when they travel abroad. All the warnings are there due to prior experiences in those areas. Experiences which the Government has still not cleared up. There have been children killed due to our water sports industry and the Government has still not properly managed it. until that changes expect no change in these advisories.

On US travel advisory remains unchanged

LOL This writer going on and on about this being unChristain and how he as a Christian can't agree with it. Remind me again why you were disbarred and what the bible says about stuff like that. I have no problems with people who are against Gays due to their religion, as long as they live that religion. I do however have a problem when people are against gay due to their religion but then live a life that is against their religion. Oh and saying don't force your agenda on all of us is what happens here to non Christians everyday as everyone must listen to a prayer before anything happens. Note this is coming from a straight Christian (though one who doesn't live fully according to the bible)

Bannister is without a doubt one of the most useless ministers we have, which considering the others is pretty hard to do.

And yet nothing has changed at BPL, no one has been fired for gross incompetence, no one has been arrested for theft or corruption. But no its easier to just make the people pay more. Theres been no change at BPL to make people feel we won't be right back in this situation in a couple years. Please DNA start coming out with some good ideas etc as the two parties that have run this country for over 50 years have brought us to ruin and are too dumb to even realize it.

And this is the problem here. Nothing will happen. You had an officer admit to doing something wrong and nothing. This goes on all the time in all departments of this country. When people are found to do something wrong they are not fired or charged before the court, rather they are just moved around or everyone pretends nothing happens. Until we get serious when people break the laws we will never be able to make this country better

I agree with the idea we should say no to violence, but whoever planned this event must be one of the most stupidest people here. Who closes Bay Street before rush hour is over. It took me and many others over 2 hours to get to work because of this event. So congratulations on making everyone's Monday a lot worse then it needed to be. If you really need to close Bay street to get your message across perhaps consider doing it at 10 am after people can get to work. I guarantee you had a lot of extra angry people thanks to your event.

And thats what a responsible Government should do. Warn it's citizen when they travel abroad.

Dawes says...

I'm never sure on this whole income tax argument. Mainly as people just say we need income tax as though thats the answer without saying at what rate and on what amount. For it to work we would no doubt need a much larger Inland Revenue department, which would cost a lot. How would this cost compare to what is brought in. Its easy to say just tax the millionaires, but that won't bring in enough, so i am sure it would be down at around $20-25,000 and over, which means the middle class would yet again get slammed. The real rich can just work out ways around it (dividends, leave the country and so on), so as always its the middle class. As a novel idea and before any taxes are increased on anything, how about the Government cut its expenditure? But i highly doubt that, we seem to be a country that thinks we can tax ourselves out of debt and do not care what wastage goes on. We are all about to be taxed again for BPL's failures, and not 1 person has been held to account for this and they never will, so i expect no change until collapse over here.

I think the $7.44 million is what the Government has been given. The US alone spent more then this, however that will be via US Aid, Coast Guard, US Customs etc etc. Money given to other charities would not be included in the $7.4 million.
