This is a stupid piece of legislation. All well and good evacuating when its an island with a couple hundred people. But what are they going to do on the more populated islands. If this was in place for Dorian, the Abaco Cays would have been evacuated to Marsh Harbour I assume. If that was the case then the death toll would have been higher. This is just Government trying to show they are proactive, when in reality they are only reactive and even then they fail. Just say if we say evacuate and you don't you are on your own when the storm comes. People will understand this. All this legislation will do is cause plenty problems for the police before the storm is coming. Problems they don't need and precious time they will spend on this rather then more important issues.

Also we all know that one off tax on the wealthy would soon become a yearly thing and the lower level would keep dropping until it got all of us. We are already an expensive country for tourists to come to so that $5 tax is silly. Yet again they didn't say cut expenditure in Government. We seem to be one of those countries who is trying to prove the idea that you can't tax yourself into prosperity wrong.

Dawes says...

I hope this is not true. But it also shows the complete shambles our Government and civil service are. A week or so ago it was 1,300, then this went down to 600 then to 400. Now the minster says more the 1,000. In another article Marvin Dames says 282. Does anyone in Government actually talk to each other? Bunch of imbeciles

Dawes says...

Blah Blah Blah, Its all be said before and will be said again to placate the market. If they were serious they should follow what the law states and do it in reasonable time. If many of those who are undocumented were born here and have the right to citizenship then give it to them. Stop taking years and years leaving people in limbo. If they don't have the right then deport, but do it in a humane fashion, and finally and most importantly charge those of us Bahamains who hire them and haul them to court. They are the ones creating the demand.

Why do we keep having people who have no idea how to run a business make decisions which will negatively affect the business . There are no doubt plenty of business who would like to go solar, but when making their decision they will look at the cost benefit analysis of it. Based on this many will say its not worth it. Has URCA been given a mandate to ensure as little solar power is used over here as possible?. As this appears to be their sole intent, and it they aren't doing this on purpose then government should also look at the skills needed to be in these decision making roles. As those skills are sorely lacking. Also someone tell Government that by doing this we should stop going around the world saying they must do something about Climate change, as its obvious we don't care.

Dawes says...

Well URCA has just proven itself to be useless. We all known about Government being useless for a long time so nothing new there. They have spent all this time to come up with something that makes no sense. no doubt getting paid a lot to do it. All they had to do was take from another country whats being done. Like i said its just another entity that we can say is useless.

Dawes says...

At the end of the day the root of all problems over here is us. Us Bahamians are willing to turn a blind eye in the hope one day we can use the same process or person involved, we are willing to buy a lunch for the Government employee to get better service (or any service), we are willing to hire the illegal to cut our grass as its cheaper then the Bahamian. All of these have caused enormous problems for the country as a whole, but we keep doing it, as at that moment in time it benefits us, even though it will hurt us a lot more in the long run. I hope every year that this will be the year we say enough, but the older i get the more i have realized thats never going to happen.

Dawes says...

Probably because the actual cost is $5 million, then you multiply by 3 to $15 million and the Crony in Govt also gets $4 million as a bonus.

On Restoring Rand after storm will cost $19m

Thought this was said about 2 years ago? And by the prime minister before and the one before. Then nothing is done. They need to come up with a sensible immigration policy and then stick to it.

Does anyone know who actually owns the land these areas are on? Is it crown land or owned by someone. If owned by someone were they paying rent for being there. If so then the Government should also go after the person who owned the land and charge them with not building to code. At a guess if it's crown land no one cares, and if privately owned, that person powerful enough to do what they want and to hell with the law of this country. In which case these ares will be back soon.
