The 3,500 is by NEMA, this does not include all those taken by private planes and boats, so the actual number will be much higher. However NEMA can only give the number they know.
But all this was known before the storm. Why does it take a storm for us to do anything. And by anything i mean set up a committee which will be paid handsomely for working out what to do, who will then unfortunately only give their advice two days before the next election, so the next Government in turn will have to set up their own committee etc etc.
I think most people agree the decision on NAD is a benefit to the country as the airport is a lot cleaner all the time and operates well. Hopefully this will be the case with Global Ports. Yes there will always be someone who complains about giving away our brithright, even though the benefits should be much more then we get now. Others will say we could do this, but we've had decades and havent so lets try something else.
No Government in the history of the Bahamas has ever been so incompetent and incapable of governing except for the one before and the one before that. You know the ones who also dealt with load shedding every summer (not as bad as this one) and did nothing. At least this one is getting a new power plant built (though this should have been done within the first two years). So yes this Government is bad but nothing on the last few who knew this day was coming and did nothing.
To blame Minnis for this whilst saying the issues have been going on for decades is part of the problem. We all expect these items that have been ongoing for so long to be sorted in a couple of days. Minnis hasn't done well in sorting these out but the blame lies with all including pretty much everyone who has voted as PLP didn't do anything to help last time, nor FNM the time before. And watch we the people will vote PLP back in 2022 and then a year or so later say wait till 2027 when we kicking them out and voting FNM in.
Ahh OK understand now, though for the Carmichael one they would be paying $625 i think, which is lower then the 2.5%, though i get what you mean. Government should have said after you reached $50,000 the real property tax on the remainder would be at a lower %. Then slowly increase that.
Not 100% sure what the letter writer is talking about. What tax breaks is Lyford getting that Carmichael doesn't? Is it the real property tax exemption on the first amount? If so that helps Carmichael more. Yes the FNM did a stupid move with getting rid of the real property tax increase that they were going to do. That has been a hall mark of every one of their budgets, they do something without seeing the bigger picture and then have to back track, but that doesn't mean they are giving Lyford an Exemption. Am sure someone can enlighten me, though as a note i agree that the trickle down economics as proposed in the US does not really work.
Because i hoped he would be different. He isn't. We had power cuts and load shedding every year even before Minnis which is why i said we can't run it.

Because if they did that you would then complain that the PM is not even flying to have a look at Abaco as he doesn't care.
