Hopefully this will lead to something finally happening at the Dump. For those saying this is something the FNM will pay, no this is Government which means the Bahamian people. It will of course be interesting to see what happens when they finally do something about the dump. As a lot of the change will have to come from us, and i can already see people screaming about not being able to sue Styrofoam products or having to split their garbage up. Reckon there will be an increase in illegal dumping when they do what is needed.

These nasty banks forcing us to go to them and then having the gall to make a profit off of us. We make the decision whether to take out a loan or Mortgage. We decide the size of the house we want to live in. On the $16 fee for cashing a chq. that is only if you are not a customer. If you want the bank to use its resources for you become a customer who is therefore paying for these services. Otherwise make a payment on it.

Repost from other story
AS usual if a foreigner says something that we decide is bad about the Bahamas we tear them down. We have all said, on this website, at one point or another that there are serious issues that need to be addressed. Now this man says it, instead of listening to the message we would rather shoot the messenger. If one of the top people at perhaps the largest bank in the country says these are the problems he faces, we should listen, as all the other banks will be saying the same thing.

But no lets continue to say how bad he is and how he should leave as we don't like the message, whilst we continue to churn out huge numbers of under educated children who are on the verge of becoming adults.

Hope its true, doubt it is. Every year we are told great things will happen on this project. Guess one day they will be right.

The minister has been responsible for this from the election. He says don't blame him and yet he has done nothing to try and make this not occur. Anyone could tell him that if the dump operated as it has done there would soon be a fire. What has he done? Nothing. He can claim that they have had RFP out to deal with it, the last Government had the same proposals out. Why doesn't he, and the rest of them stop trying to work out how they can personally make money off of the dump (and all other areas of Govt) and make a decision. At a guess all the RFP's he has currently are exactly the same as the ones given to the PLP a year ago, which are the same given to the PLP at the start of their previous term, which are the same as those given to Ingrhams FNM government, the only thing that has changed is those who are making money off of it.

When did Cable Bahamas have a monopoly? Was it when only BTC was allowed to provide cellular coverage? Or are you saying when they provided TV, which you could get from Satellite Bahamas, Or internet for which you could use BTC?

On VAT revenue behind this quarter

VAT was to be introduced at 15% and most items would then have seen a reduction in duty. However due to the outcry they went with 7.5% and kept the reduction in duty to a small number of items (this probably meant an increase in what Government would get as compared to the 15%, so they were happy). Whatever the Government decides to do, if we join WTO we must reduce duties. This money will need to be made up some other way. Be it VAT increase or Income tax or another form of tax. As one thing all Governments have shown in this country is they will not reduce the expenditure side.

Dawes says...

The state Department has met with the officials time and time again and nothing has happened. So they put out the warnings. Yes they bought in regulations on the jet ski industry but they don't enforce them. A bit like you are meant to stop on a red light, but people keep going through for another 2-3 seconds after. It is not the state Departments job to help Bahamian business grow. It is their job to keep Americans safe. If that means giving warnings that hurt Bahamian business then so be it, and if it matters so much to the Bahamas then perhaps we should do something about it, rather then say how wrong they are.
