Income tax wouldn't work. We rely on tourists to pay a large part of our tax for us. if we got rid of all then it is only those who work who would be taxed. There is around 220,000 workers here. Forecasted revenue for 2025/26 in tax is $3.4 Billion, so each worker would need to contribute $15,454.55. If you say only put it on the richest 50,000 then they would need to contribute $68,000 each.
WE all know they ain't passing that cost on. Those are their friends etc so of course the Bahamian public will have to pay to remove it. Wait till the cost of removing the bridge to the old Coral World is needed as that's about to collapse, i am sure that will be on us to pay, and no doubt to the tune of millions $$
Government on purpose does not give any useful information out, to make sure you have no idea what is correct or not. As such i don't trust much that comes out of Government officials mouths as there is no repercussion for lying nor is there anyway to see if it is correct. Except for months or years later when what they said would happen did not happen.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was for early up front gains at the expense of long term. Government is desperately hoping to bring a surplus in next year, and this would help. Even if it is just a paper surplus. Ask anyone who does business with Government, or is owed a VAT refund from Government and they are not getting paid in a timely manner.
Why anyone would want to invest in a company which will be run by the company which is unable to pay currently for the water it gets is beyond me. But guess someone somewhere may want to.
There is no way the port authority is concerned with safety. Watch the harbor on any given day right outside the ports office and you can tell that is not the case. In this case i assume someone who has no small boating experience thought this was a good idea. Will no doubt be another rule selectively enforced.
Yes he is correct, so much so that they have now changed what they are doing as the system which he said was good is obviously not good. But hey, as long as it is said by a PLP that is more important then the effect to Bahamas as per Birdie
Yet again Government shows it is unable to do anything correct. We the people increased our contributions and they just go and waste it without a care. The rate they are going NIB will soon need to be 25% of your income and they still won't call it an income tax.
What do real estate agents do for their 6-10% of each sale? Appears to be nothing. Government should look at allowing people to negotiate a commission rate, would probably make sales more likely as at the moment you have to increase the price of your property almost 20% before you make a $.
