I don't see why there is such a huge argument on this. We are not a Christian country so who cares what the bible says. 70% of kids are born out of wedlock, sweethearting is a national pastime, murders are always high, crime happens all the time, these are all things the bible tells us not to do. As they happen all the time it must mean that we do not care what the bible says and only do what we want, when we want and to hell with the Bible (unless it agrees with the course of action we are taking, then the bible is the most important item and must be followed line for line).
It also says thou shalt not commit adultery, but apparently thats OK for all the religious folks here, as God said you could ignore the ones you want. Of course we should also not have sex before marriage and yet somehow 70% of all kids born are out of wedlock in this Christian country. It's lucky we are so religious over here and take the word of God as Gospel, otherwise who knows how much crime and other issues we would have.
We don't have to agree to all being mentioned, it is our choice. However if we do not they are saying they will blacklist us which would make it a lot harder to do business with them, in addition it would make it a lot harder for citizens of their country to put their money in any banks based here, which in effect would destroy our banking industry. We are caught in the catch 22 and it is better to be compliant and have some sort of industry then be non-compliant and have none. At least thats how i understand it.
Umm isn't it wrong to not render unto Caesar what is his. So surely there should be no back taxes owed? If there no longer is a building on the property isn't this your responsibility to inform Government? Duties were going to be eliminated on most items when VAT was brought in, however VAT was going to be 15% to do this. This did not happen. Basically all you are doing is blaming everyone apart from yourself for the situation you find yourself in.
Why do people insist on the Government having people employed when they are not needed. Why do they feel it is OK to pile tax on top of tax for the private sector as long as Government keeps employing more then they need. Yes it's bad for people to be made unemployed but the Government can not continue to employ masses of people to make the unemployment levels look semi good. This writer obviously does not understand economics and would rather we continue as we have for the last 40 years until we are finally broke, instead of trying to fix the economy now
All true, however the inequalities in The Bahamas are too great and it is only right that those who are richer pay more, even if they do not benefit as much. Income tax is the easiest way of doing this. One hope would be the people demand more accountability on Government if they have to pay more.
I agree, this is why i think they will introduce it at a high rate as people won't mind. However knowing how our Governments have all squandered the revenue they make it won't take long before they reduce the rate income tax starts, then eventually a large majority will be paying it.

Fully agree that this should be law, but shall have to wait for all the sweethearting "Christians" to tell us how this goes against the Bible.
