If they bring in income tax it will start off low like 5% and initially only be for people earning large amounts (say over $50,000). All sounds good, however with the way our Governments spend within 10 years it will be at 20-30% and starting at $15-20,000. I wouldn't mind paying it if we got value for our money, but if it is to to keep the standards we have now, then no that's not acceptable. Unfortunately i know that it will happen one day and when it does i will still be breaking my car up going to work as the extra money will be wasted.,
The headline looks good, then reading the article it states that the reduction was due to a decrease in infrastructure spending and the recurrent expense (pay etc) went up. Driving around you can tell they have cut the infrastructure spending, and will now need to put extra back in (can the Government please make sure they have people who know how to patch a hole in the road so it doesn't start out as a mountain and then over time turn into another hole). In reality they have not begun the hard work of getting the recurrent expenses down and we shall have to wait to see if they have the will to do this.
Whatever your feelings on immigration this is a very worrying story. How can no one seem to know what has happened to this person. Even if he was deported surely immigration would have to go through the correct channels and have evidence to show this was the case. Government needs to very quickly clean up this mess in a transparent manner and then ensure it never happens again. This does not make the Bahamas look good. We should always follow the law of the land no matter what.
Yet again Govt makes a change which they deem necessary, then an outcry happens and they back track. As sickened says, stick to your decision. I assume you went through all the necessary workings to decide that new figure was the right one so charge it. All they have done is ensure the next idea they have to increase fees is met by an outcry.
Of course speed is a factor and at a guess drinks as well. When we drove at 20 mph home after a few drinks we may have hit a wall but for the expense were ok. Now people are driving at 80 mph weaving in and out of traffic as though they are invincible. Red lights are run at all times of the day and yet i have not seen the police stop one car for doing this. WE need to slow down and the police need to enforce the laws.
The insurance company are wrong for that. If i live on the shore and you live in the middle of Nassau i should have to pay more, as i am more at risk. They should price based on where you are rather then the country as a whole. Older communities on Nassau were built in less risky areas, new ones out South, West on the sea front (think Sandyport and Love beach) are riskier so should cost more.
I thought Mr. Mitchell was meant to be smart. All i can see is someone acting like a baby and throwing his toys out the pram because he didn't get his way. If he can not see that the last 50 years are no longer benefiting the majority of people here (for his crew it probably still is), he is blind. Saying carte blanche that anyone wanting to invest here is not welcome and will be kicked out when you don't even know who it is and what benefit they will give the country is asinine. But thats been Fred's way for a long time, he only cares how he looks and not what will benefit the country.
Thats right, the Government must ensure that all Bahamians are owners of their own companies, and nothing else . Of course the problem will be who will be the workers at these companies, but we can deal with that once we all own our own company.
People are allowing their hatred of foreigners to show too much. If you truly are a Bahamian Nationalist then you would want the laws of our country followed. Fred Smith may act crazy, but he knows the law and will have done what he did in accordance with the laws of this country. If the Government wants to be able to have the detention centre act the way it does, then change the law so it can. Until then make sure it adheres the to laws of this country.
