But surely all this should be known. There is no way a sensible government would make a decision like this without knowing the impact on those to benefit. Unless they were only looking at the political benefit and didn't care about anything else.
Any plans on what to do with the roads due to the increased traffic? That road is bumper to bumper most evenings. Any plans on increasing the nearby government school to handle the extra children? Yes homes are needed, but the government has always taken a build it and the rest will deal with itself. Hence the reason why traffic is so bad across the island. In the near future we will soon reach complete gridlock. Guess it don't matter if you can have a siren and just drive through it all. Finally this $30 million equates to over $200k per house. And this is when the land is free.
This article has done nothing to show how they will get to the 32%. Another if you say it, it will happen article, with nothing of substance being done.
Maybe just maybe if NIB was not used as a political toy it would be properly funded. There are countless disused buildings that NIB have bought for the benefit of the previous owner. There is no benefit to Bahamians to own them. Then the amount of times NIB has invested in Government owned enterprises and got little to no pay back from them is also countless. Until they eliminate political interference in NIB and stop the belief that they can just get Bahamians to pay more it will be a failure. So the NIB director can pontificate all she wants about companies not paying their share, the biggest cost to NIB is political and she has not tried to stop it.
I said have certain items VAT free. On Real property get rid of the upper limit, if you get rid of the $300,000 exemption then if you are in a $300,005 you are getting a full hit.
Is it really that bad to ask the question. A quick look at AML shows sales over $200 million, assuming the vast majority is food (80%) then that would be $160 million. This is $16 million less (or $8 million at 5%), Super value would be more. Where is Government going to get that revenue. I don't think those who need the cut are buying ribeye, but someone buying that will also get the cut. Why? Why not revamp breadbasket and put those VAT free, making sure it is a healthy option for people. Then all else is VAT. Otherwise where are Government going to make up the revenue decrease? Its not as though we have a surplus now.
When they increased the breadbasket VAT to 10% they said it was not right to give the benefit to wealthy people and that they would use social security to help those who need it. Apart from an Election coming why the change in policy?
Think they were meant to publish this on April 1st. This can't be real. You are talking about millions, if not billions in investment and the company you sign up with has no experience of doing anything like this. How
