The income RBC makes in Bahamas can be taxed in Bahamas, their subsidiary is a Bahamian Company.

From what i have heard those owners say they will only build if the law is changed to allow them to build higher then the current 5. If thats the case change the law to 8-10 but also stipulate that if no redevelopment Government can force a sale at fire sale prices to someone who will develop it.
Also Downtown will never really take off if Government keeps closing the main road to every single event, especially on a work day for most people. Who would want to work downtown when getting there is gridlock most days? Thats one of the main reason all the office workers have moved out

on the corporation tax part i should have clarified that i meant they will keep lowering the $750 million threshold until all companies are paying it.
On RBC i assume they are over 750 million. If so currently the money they make here is combined with the money they make elsewhere and taxed in Canada. If we pass this then we would get the 15% rate and RBC can offset what they have to pay in Canada a bit with it. This way RBC pays the same as they always would, we however would get the 15% that we don't get now. Thats why they say it would be a benefit to the smaller nations. This is a tax that the company has to pay either here or in Canada, if we pass the law we get the tax here.

To help us we would need to pass a law stating any company that meets the global requirements would need to pay us 15%. The companies themselves won't care because if they don't pay it here they will have to pay it in their home countries on the profit made here. Example RBC currently takes all their profit to Canada and Canada will get the 15%. if we change the law we get it. Now of course by doing this you have opened the door for corporation tax and by doing that income tax.

Which is it? This or what the other article says from Harbour Island about them having a great Christmas? If local operators have to pay this fee then so should the foreign operators and then some to encourage them to become local operators.

I think we have to reach rock bottom before things will get better. And we are not there yet. Bay Street has been nasty for a long time and we have talked about it for a long time and thats all. Nothing has changed. The powers that be do not want to change it. Then when someone points it out (like that tourist video a while ago) we all get mad and say how dare they. Soon we will wonder why we see so many ships in but no one coming out of the new port and then maybe it will hit us to know we must do better.

One of the most useless Govt entities that contributes greatly to the expense of every day life in this country. One day they will go to far in increasing their costs due to their incredible bad management, and then it will be too late.

Dawes says...

They need to have a full in depth study about the impact of income tax, and be honest about it. One of the benefits to taxes such as VAT is that we get the 5-7 million tourists to contribute which would not happen if we had income tax only. Are there enough people earning enough that an income tax would make up that spend and then some. Until i see the analysis it would be hard to say which one would benefit the most Bahamians.

So we can expect more road blocks as this seems to be their main plan for fighting crime, which has been so successful. If we just did a bit of intelligent policing we could go a lot further. But i doubt it. I expect more videos of the police out in force to make people think they have it under control.

Agreed most of our cruise visitors are on the 3 day cruises which are all inclusive so people don't spend. When you are on a 7 day cruise you want to get off the ship etc.
