@themessenger, I understand the argument, but our number one priority is opening for tourism dollars--that alone is the purpose. Those individuals entering our country, most are not vaccinated; so, containing the virus will forever be a fluid endeavor.
@themessenger, no I do not expect any better...to be honest with you; I'm in total agreement that we've been living the lesser of two evils, and fighting for everything--not just flour. The segregation that I refer to, is the fact that unvaccinated individuals should not be treated as if they don't have rights--that's not something any government should do. As for trespassing...that's an issue within itself (private property is private property), if you're not a member of a private community, you have not rights there.
@themessenger and other individuals who see no issue with infringing on an individual's rights in their private domicile. The issue at hand is not our reality (over burdened healthcare system); the issue is the overall handling of the pandemic, and disguised tactics for mandatory vaccinations. I don't care for, nor partake in gatherings...safe and sanitary procedures are more important to me. If an individual decides to be vaccinated or not, it's his or her choice; furthermore this delta variant is posing infection issues for the vaccinated as well as unvaccinated (so there should be no gathering exception). If individuals would adhere to the restrictions and protocols, along with following sanitary guidelines so much would be different. But, if this administration wants to continue with their poor governance, which Bahamians have experienced over the past 4 plus years, and many previously successive 5-year periods...continue to push this segregationist effort.
All of these politicians are incessant idiots, who once elected demonstrate their distasteful disdain for anything Bahamian (investments, entrepreneurship, and culture). Bahamian progress has never been valued, by politicians unless they're expecting under-the-table payouts, or they're trying to securing votes. Mark Humes has been a disgrace, and with this BS continues to be...this Independence (like all) should be highlighting any semblance of Bahamian resiliency. "Christian Nation", please! That label has been tarnished for as long as I've been alive, and means absolutely nothing to observant individuals.
To be honest, like so much in this country...the state of that facility is atrocious. What pains me...but seems to be quite fine by all standards with the individuals that are taken care of, when their party is in power; is the disregard for infrastructural improvements. For decades that hospital and so many other facilities have been deteriorating, and successive governments have neglected simple improvements needed--until the simple improvements becomes full-blown issues. Then all entities responsible for these facilities or organizations, make attempts to whitewash the obvious...nothing is ever prioritized and properly addressed in this country.
There are other questions to be answered and concerns to be addressed...other than "so now even the off duty police officers are killing civilians". Firstly, there is still a curfew in place, why are individuals (including a police officer) out and establishments still operating that close to the start of curfew. disregarding the law. There are many incidences and bad outcomes which could be avoided, but adhering to the law is something most Bahamians refuse to do (regardless of the tough financial times). Also, if someone is attacking you with a baseball bat, which is a deadly weapon (by the way), hopefully someone assists you, because sounds as if you'd throw your hands up, and then succumb to injuries inflicted upon you. I can only assume, you've never heard of the term "blunt force trauma".
The revolving door of corruption, mismanagement, deceit, incompetence, lack of transparency, and outright disrespect and concern for Bahamians by our elected governments continue. Along with all that's going on with this present revelation, is glaring financial inconsistencies, as well as unbelievable decisions...where "poor judgment" is an understatement. Bahamians and The Bahamas never seem to be a priority, just self-interest, and pillaging. I do wholeheartedly agree with the opinion of many of you that Sands' sudden conviction is suspect, especially with the reality that he was a cabinet-member (heading a pertinent ministry) to this debacle. It has been my opinion that our political system needed an overhaul for over 2 decades now...being partisan and aligning oneself with party agenda is detrimental to the progress and socioeconomic status of our nation.
Unbelievable! " Bahamians always want to talk down on the younger generation"? This so-called "younger generation" has repeatedly talked down themselves...no one needs to do that for them. All of you should be ashamed (the 8000 students and parents, as well as all the enablers) for this farce of an excuse. Preparation for these national examinations would've/should've already passed the stage of complete; where reviewing would've/should've been in full swing. So, the claimed lack of preparedness is baseless. We were in quarantine/24-hr weekend lockdowns/business closures--come off of it, we were all in the house or should've been! But, we as Bahamians are so accustomed and readily accept mediocrity, our entire existence exudes mediocrity--inclusive of excuses.
The date these examinations are now scheduled to begin gives most, if not all, sufficient time to continue their refresher (for the ones that were preparing as they should have) and some time to study (for the ones that decided not to). You all, along with the excuse spewing teachers and parents, are just enablers...six (6) years of high school (Junior and Senior), but you're not ready, really? "please do the future generation a favor"? They need to do themselves a favor and be accountable and stop deflecting. They all (students) have the option, to show up or not, for the examinations--cancellation should not be considered, maybe an additional month given; these examinations are very important for students.
