disagree, the Bahamas engulfs itself in a web of entitlement, corruption and easy money. the gold rush mentality is still here. people prefer to make a quick buck today rather than invest in the future and earn 100x a dollar down the road. brown bags is what keeps the country going. honesty has not fair market value.
here is an idea PM; Hold a referendum on the Bahamianization of all banks. Just because a bank holds money it does not mean it belongs to the people or the Government.
the way the public sector is set up and motivated to work in the Bahamas, VAT will be a disaster, not only because the private sector will cheat wherever it can, but simply because of the Government not being motivated to collect and with all the corruption in place there is much money to go around.
whether companies have to pay the taxes through VAT, or payroll or corporate taxes, if they have proper accounting and no black accounts, whatever the Government takes from a business will reduce its bottom line. no rocket science.
Food testing, really? for a population of 300k? You can have standards all day long. Reality is the BBS will take over interntional standards anyhow. the key is not the testing, it is the enforcement.
