Amen Sealice. Few things more disgraceful than playing politics with someones life and blaming the victim. Was the road properly lit? The articlr mentioned early Thursday morning. How early? Were there signs warning drivers of new impediments far in advance? Apparently not since Banny says they will now put them up. He mentioned there is a clear view of the road in his set up to blame the dead woman. My question again would be when is there a clear view? At 12 noon or 4am or all the time, morning noon and in the dark night? Why put in speed bumps again if Banny says people keep taking them up? What's the point? Money waste again? What would be different this time? And what about the confusion regarding ownership of the road. Is it public or private? If its private then why is the government doing anything? If its public then the family of the deceased should sue everyone in that subdivision who voted to put the barrier in. Like the expat who tried to claim a whole road between Bay St and Dowdeswell street some years ago - putting in the barrier would be illegal. Banny's position protects the PM and the residents who are clearly responsible in part for this woman's death. He took the politically expedient position. But as someone who I am told has faced his own mortality- he should be ashamed.
How come your column lacks the spelling and grammatical errors rampant in the rest of the paper? Have them kick you down a couple extra dollars to edit this paper because other than your column - it can be a painful read for those of us who passed GCE English- Yes I am that old! The Bruce quote is pure gold but your mention of the "and so" attitude really hits something on the head for me. Its no different than the PLP. I hope they paid attention to what happened in Barbados.
I think this is the most honest statement on the proclivities of Bahamians I have ever heard by a politician. The response above is sad. It is important for Bahamians to know their HIV status. I am sure it would root up a lot of crap because many faithful men and women would have to confront the people they live with and gave it to them. We like ignorance though just not the consequences. The consequences of hiv/aids is still death and in truth the Bahamas has done an amazing job in keeping the status of people who have been diagnosed as HIV positive private. So all of your DNA/Privacy issues listed above, while not unimportant- have no supporting evidence in the history of hiv/aids treatment in the Bahamas. And to hear Pastor Moss spill the nonsense above in relation to this epidemic is beyond sad. The age of consent needs to rise for many reasons- none have to do with hiv/aids which was raging in the Bahamas long before carnival.
The Bahamas is sinking with a bunch of know-nothings wanting position and pay who bring absolutely nothing to the table. Corruption and incompetence have helped the Bahamas squander years of prosperity. And this government - in my opinion- in many ways offers little change than the last bunch. Another article mentions Greenslade's appointment in London. But if we look at all the people who have been appointed to represent the country abroad with zero government or foreign service experience or translatable skills- he is a shining star! Besides him and one or two other knowledgeable foreign service officers- what do all of the appointed bring to the table? Perhaps a better question is- what connections do they have to party and the powers that be in the party that allowed them to "earn" the position? To see some of them perform on behalf of the country make this over da hill Bahamian- shame. But mediocrity is the order of the day. We are good at looking the other way as long as we benefit and are even better at putting lipstick on a pig. A year in - same bat channel. Same bat station.
