Young Bahamian, "However, the basis on which I voted was because of my strong belief in the principles of the proposed bills, not because I necessarily was pleased in the way they were being handled and relayed to the people." in these words you have expressed the most important thing about these exercises- a focus on country first rather than personal/political agendas or the noise in the market. This is not naive at all but infinitely wise.
With all due respect Mr. Nottage- it is time for you to exit the political scene. Your service to the Bahamian people has come to an end. Best you take a moment to "see" that rather than have the people tell you that at the polls.
Yes Economist, that is the ultimate difference in the four areas that approved at least one of the bills- educated professional class and enlightenment. I know lots of people in this demographic who don't live in these areas and they voted yes as well. While plenty middle class people also voted against them for religious or professional reasons(doctors- that's whole different story) the vote was definitely split along class/education lines. The dumbing down of the Bahamian population by the political class- many of whom who voted yes- since independence has been a sad and total success.
I couldn't agree more with Candid. A disgraceful position, especially for someone who supposed to be interested in leading the country into the future. Backward thinking tripe.
Congratulations Ms. Burrows. You love your country and have a heart for one of the biggest concerns I have for our country- violence against children. I have heard too many stories. Our children need protection and those who abuse them need to be persecuted and I don't give two bits WHO you are. I want to see these religious ministers put some effort in addressing the true social ills of this country, but i guess that would take some real work and there is no money in that. Not in your constituency, but I wish you well.
This is an excellent rebuttal. As someone who deeply admired Dame Joan's achievement growing up, I was appalled and deeply disappointed by her statements. The fact that they appear to have been made in complete ignorance of the law sadly says more about her legacy than I care to think through at this moment. Well_Mudda_Take_Sic Dame Joan was "wrong" legally. Whether she was "right" spiritually I will leave that up to you and those that think as she does. Since I am not on that particular run- your one "no" vote will be cancelled by my one "yes" vote.
This guys smug face next to Minnis has been bothering me. Who is he? Is he a sitting parliamentarian? Has he ever spoken or said anything of merit or substance? Who is he?
Thats a mouthful Deddie but I don't believe they made these moves without discussing who will take over. This is a sharp group. I also don't think it will be LBT, but the senior minister, Neko Grant.

Now that the No vote has won, he will come out and claim he voted no. Disgraceful populist. Certainly not a leader.
On Minnis won’t say how he will vote
