During a time of national crisis it is so much more comfortable to be in opposition. I do agree with Davis however that we need to ramp up testing capability so that it is available to all.

Weekend only lock downs are a complete waste of time as are these stupid curbside only rules. All they are doing is making people's lives miserable. The ordinary guy in the street can see that existing restrictions are useless. Why doesn't our supposedly more intelligent government persist with this half backed solution? Look at the rise in the number of infections. Look at the overwhelmed PMH. The current strategy is not working. Yet government continues to talk of opening up to tourists! Opening up to what???

I get annoyed with the many posters on here who continue to peddle the fallacy that COVID-19 is no worse than the flu. Unfortunately there are many across the globe who actually believe this. Many relatively fit and healthy younger people are dying of this virus i.e. without them carrying any underlying health conditions. Also, there are now many, many tales of people suffering long term complications after supposedly recovering. Whilst we can argue about what tactics to employ to give us the best chance of beating the virus please STOP the nonsense about this just being another flu.

Looks like we are going to need more tents soon. The trend is concerning and the lack of communication from the Competent Authority suggests the government has no idea how to get the virus back under control.

Curb side restrictions are totally stupid.

So what is your alternative strategy? You can't surely be suggesting we remove all restrictions and let the virus run wild? COVID may not have vastly increased death rates over the last six months but the trajectory would be dire if we open everything up with no plan. PMH is currently overwhelmed. Is that not a concern for you? Also, it is being reported that many people across the world are suffering long term complications after "recovering" from COVID. So we cannot focus simply on death rates.

The latest figures show that at least 112 Bahamians have perished due to COVID and there are 112 persons fighting for their lives in critical care. These are facts that don't need to be spun. It really doesn't matter what stats the WHO come out with - the only stats that matter are the ones I have just quoted. I am no apologist for the government for they have made a number of stupid decisions, not least of which the decision to open up the airways on 1st July. Also, they continue to promote a new opening of 1st November. This is equally stupid - we don't tell the virus when we open, the virus tells us! That said, the current measures are clearly not sufficient for the country to get on top of the situation. The current weekend lock down situation is akin to going to the doctor for a course of antibiotics and stopping the meds half way through! If we are going to get serious about defeating this contagion then we surely need to go the whole hog and introduce a planned two week total lock down to get the numbers back to a manageable level. If we can't get the infection rate down to single digits then track and trace efforts will be a waste of time. If the government does decide a prolonged lock down is necessary then this is surely the time to do it. There are few tourists visiting anyway, the major hotels are closed and the hospitals are overwhelmed. Take a full course of treatment now and be done with it. If you don't like this idea then please let me have your alternative.

P.S. Any alternative that would result in a loss of many hundreds of Bahamian lives is not an alternative.

Trump is an unhinged man with a deeply flawed character who has hijacked the Republican Party. He will promote and refuse to condemn any group that supports him. Trump is all about Trump yet millions of Americans are even now prepared to vote this man back into power at the risk of permanently damaging their cherished democracy. Many Republican senators and governors have shamelessly turned a blind eye to the blatant misdemeanors of this "fake" President. Trump will lose the upcoming election because he has not understood the extent to which he has alienated decent Americans. This is no longer an election between Republican and Democrats - it's about Right versus Wrong. Sadly Trump's cult following has become blind to his failings and lack of integrity but I am convinced he will lose badly because he has surely lost many more voters than he has gained, particularly over his gross mismanagement of the pandemic.

In its desperation to open up the economy this administration has missed the most vital point: we cannot offer a tourism product unless and until we eradicate this virus from our shores. It is ridiculous to be even contemplating a re-opening date while infection rates soar. The country's ENTIRE focus right now should be combating and defeating this virus. THEN we can talk about re-opening.
