This is going to get ugly. Izzie will fight this all the way and will take the government down with him if they and China try to force him out. Big losers in all of this: We the people.
A position paper by RBC (Bahamas) states that conducting business with web shops would run afoul of its parent bank’s global policies and US Federal law.
We don't have to go any further than this. RBC (Bahamas) will simply exit the Bahamas if it is told it must accept tainted money. CIBC and Scotiabank will follow them leaving us all to bank with Bank of The Bahamas. If that happens ALL foreign investors will leave these shores. Government really hasn't thought this one through.
What the people want to know is how many tourist dollars flowed into the country as a result of the event and how did that compare to the public money that was spent? The first will be hard to quantify but from the pictures I have seen and persons I have spoken to, the crowd was substantially local. If most of the event revenue came from Bahamians then that is money that local shops, restaurants etc were deprived of. In that case the event would have produced no economic benefit whatsoever. No doubt government will put its usual spin on things and have the report read like it was one huge success. The country is getting quite weary now of this administration's attempts to convince us of an alternative reality, just like Keith Bell claiming great successes are being made in the war on crime.
Mr Christie said he told his family that 2012 would be his last campaign, but added that there are some supporters who do not want him to step down as leader.
Who might these supporters be? Perhaps those enjoying the benefits of the PLP gravy train?
