Rollins is spot on on this matter and I don't believe for one minute that the USA advisory was not retaliatory in nature. The Embassy is never going to admit that.
What is the purpose of travel warnings? Surely it is to warn citizens of dangers that they might not be aware of in other countries? everyone will now be aware of the horrible vents in Nice last night and I doubt that anyone needs a warning from their government about the danger of visiting France. People can make their own mind up. Similarly, I would imagine most Bahamians are well aware of the recent police shootings of young black men in the USA and don't need a travel advisory from the Bahamas government to help them decide whether to travel to the States or not. Fred Mitchell was simply trying to be the "big man politician" but his action back fired and The Bahamas has suffered as a consequence.
Can't disagree. There are plenty of honest and intelligent Bahamians who don't put themselves forward for public office for fear of being tainted by the corrupt political system in The Bahamas. If any of these talented individuals is brave enough to put their name forward as an "independent" then constituents should give them every support. The current political elite is a cancer draining the lifeblood from this country.
"It's not true, it's not true" bleats Nottage as he puts his head in the sand. Sure the USA's advisory was a heavy handed response to Mitchell's stupid release but few residents of New Providence will find fault with its content. Crime is out of control in New Providence and Grand Bahama but the PLP cannot bring itself to admit it. Nottage is completely out of his depth as Minister of National Security.
The performance of the passport office is a national disgrace. Fred Mitchell should hang his head in shame over this story. Why do we put up with this? In this technological age you should be able to obtain a passport within 8 weeks max OR be able to pay an express fee and receive your passport same day. Mitchell should focus on solving this vexing problem instead of wasting his time irritating the USA with stupid advisories. Honestly, Mitchell could never cut it in a first world country.
Excellent article as usual by Mr. Coulson. The PLP have lied their way through the last five years but it all ends here. The rating agencies deal in facts not empty rhetoric and so another downgrade is almost inevitable. It is an utter disgrace that this administration has blown the $550 million in VAT revenue. This was a golden opportunity to get our fiscal house in order and build for the future. Instead they blew it like a juvenile given his first credit card! In any right thinking society, the PLP would be consigned to the scrapheap for their total abuse of the people they were chosen to represent. But this is The Bahamas where the electorate seems to have a death wish.

Unusually poor article from Adrian. It leaves the reader with the impression that Mitchell has some credibility to defend in the first place.
