It is not just the murder rate that concerns Bahamians. It is also the armed robberies, house invasions, rapes and then the thieving by corrupt politicians. Urban renewal is a complete waste of time and a charter for even more corruption. The PLP is clueless as to how to combat crime in this country.

Fitzgerald should enjoy what he can of his last 12 months as a Minister because it will be his last period in office. With his duplicity over Rubis he has made himself electable in Marathon.

Mr Mitchell said, “you cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time.

Indeed, but you can sure be a cabinet minister and a reprobate at the same time!!

Egos within the opposition parties could allow the PLP another five year term - this is the sad reality. Whilst the PLP is corrupt to its very core, it has one thing going for it: the Party and its supporters stick together knowing full well that its policy of "unity among thieves" allows them continued access to the country's cookie jar. The current administration no doubt feels confident that it can secure another five year "license to plunder" despite its shambolic performance since lying its way to election victory in 2011. Many of its gullible supporters see nothing wrong in re-electing MP's who have moved into million dollar homes out West on the back of a Minister's salary. So can those who want a more honest and transparent Bahamas unite to end the scourge of the PLP? It can happen if all interested parties put away their egos and think only of the future of this country. Unfortunately, both Minnis and McCartney appear to be ego driven as is the case with most politicians. Prospects of a successful coalition are not good therefore.

There is little hope for the country when politicians continually break the laws they themselves established. In addition to the failure of Ministers to present audit reports, we have other Ministers blatantly disregarding Financial Disclosure requirements. Is it any wonder that corruption is rife throughout The Bahamas? Politicians have no respect for the electorate who stupidly, blindly continue to elect them. Frankly, we get what we deserve.

Just what we need!!!

If the "No" vote prevails across the board then the PLP only have themselves to blame. They are the biggest hypocrites under the sun.

Speaking to The Tribune yesterday, Dr Minnis said the FNM is “a strong vibrant organisation”

Everyone else, on the other hand, thinks the FNM is a weak and divided body lead by a man who would like to be regarded as strong and vibrant. Me? I would like to be an opera star but it ain't gonna happen 'cause I can't sing!

Minnis continues to surround himself with persons who he believes are 100% loyal to him. That speaks to his insecurity as party leader. A wise leader on the other hand will include the brightest and best in his management team and he won't be afraid to include persons who might disagree with him from time to time. No leader learns anything from an inner circle made up entirely of "yes men" (or women). Minnis just doesn't get "leadership" and I suspect he never will. Leaders are born not made. It is painful to watch him trying to be what he will never be. What is disheartening is why senior FNM's are allowing the man to suffer. For the love of The Bahamas, take him aside and tell him it is over.

The problem for Bran is that he doesn't have a big enough number of credible candidates to be able to negotiate with Minnis at this point. Now if he can encourage a few big hitters from the FNM to defect and join the DNA then he would have a significant bargaining chip. The other problem is that at this point the DNA is still effectively a one man band. The DNA needs to be bigger than Bran. It needs to propelled into being the alternative party to the PLP and that means holding a convention where all senior positions are voted upon. In my view therefore, the best option for the country is for the FNM to replace Minnis and hold discussions with the DNA on an electoral pact. Alternatively, if the FNM does not have the stomach to replace Minnis then FNM's who care about their country should defect to the DNA in time for a DNA convention to be held.

On Bran open to FNM coalition
