I still don't understand why there wasn't more coverage over the fact that the cruise port moved out of East End Grand Bahama and is now near Lucaya? Wasn't the cruise port supposed to be a great saving grace for East GB, and share some of the commerce to areas outside of Freeport? Also I don't see any "Sharp Rock" on GB maps, I heard on the news they were saying 5 miles East of Lucaya, this puts the port somewhere near Fortune Beach or Peterson Beach? But based on the activity in Fortune Bay I would guess it still has to be a few miles east of there?

In 2015 there was $10 million allocated to Clifton Cleanup, seems like we've had 2 million here and there thrown around to different consultants over the years, how much has been spent over the last decade and where was it spent?:

Let's hope there is some real action not just talk, new enforced restrictions, better data gathering on commercial activities etc in 2019. Cuz it sounds like we just keep going around in circles on this, link to 2012 article saying some of the same things:

Same old same old. Thought I heard this GPS mumbo jumbo before. Take a look at this from 2014, same promise, nothing changed in 4 years.

*We met with the president of the Dominican Republic and he assured us that we had their full support,” said Mr Gray.
“A memorandum of understanding was prepared and is with them now with terms and conditions to be finalised. They are supposed to be vetting them.
“In part and parcel, one of the conditions was that Dominican vessels are to be outfitted with GPS systems to ensure that the fishermen do not venture out of their own borders.”*

As I read it, the 2.6 million covers legal costs of Save the Bays over the years battling, so where does the "environment" really win in this?
.
What environmental fines have been paid to the govt? From what I see maybe $50,000? Think I remember Minister Ferreira saying there had to be more teeth on fines for environmental impacts. [link text][1]

Agreed. Either after WTO or most likely 2021 to boost election chances. Turnover is easier for them to compare to the VAT filings, but isn't fair for a 21st century business environment. Everyone has identified it as a problem, and vexes from Jan - March about it, but nothing ever done & businesses focus on something else until filing time again.

Kinda silly to ask if people would be "happy" with a salary deduction. I don't think anyone is "happy" about it. On the other hand, we are a nation of just swallowing whatever is thrown our way (even more so when it's "our party" throwing it at us) so I could be wrong...

So the govt has basically created another instance where they have to issue tax credits. First there were only a few businesses in this situation, now it seems like we have those same businesses, construction developers, pharmacies, and drug wholesalers added into this situation. Also, Home Insurance is still VAT Exempt right? The last argument I saw said you should add 12% to your home value because of the exemption. Is anyone (even the govt) really benefiting with these changes made?

Skip to page 18, [link text][1] not good publicity for The Bahamas, especially in such a popular magazine. We need regulations yes, and foreign charters and "Charter Hackers" (foreign and local) are a big problem; but there needs to be clarity and everyone needs to get on one accord with the Fly Fishing Regulations. If we want foreigners to get permits, they need to be able to get them quickly and legally.
