It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that when you impose such an unbearable burden on the backs of your people in one of the poorest countries on the planet, what did Lafontant think was going to happen?? This is what happens when leaders are out of touch with their people. I’ll bet he’s no longer in Haiti!
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an international organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world."
And the IMF is supposed to address poverty, securing financial stability, promoting high employment and helping build nations........really????.........what a bunch of BS that is!!!
Bishop - stick to what you do best in the faith world. It’s an important part of our Christian society but for God’s sake don’t preach about what you profess to know about economics. It is precisely the incompetent, inept and corrupt so called leaders of the past that got us in this quagmire. Stick to preaching!
Neither the Govt or taxpayers should be pay one red cent! This is purely a matter for the owner of Four C’s to deal with. Does Smith have the necessary personal injury insurance to cover his business and his customers and crew?? Does the Govt require operators like this to carry such insurance?? My guess is the answer to those two two questions is NO! Because das jus how we go in da Bahmaas.
We still live in the old days and still do things the way they did things 50 years ago. Well guess what - this very tragic incident has made world news and the trips to swim with the pigs just came to a grinding halt. Tourism in Exuma will suffer big time for a very long time to come!
Bahamasair has been ridiculously over staffed since it began operating, and as long as its a government run entity, it will continue to be overstaffed and unreliable. The company needs to be run like a private business and decisions need to based on what’s best for the company, not what’s best for the political party in power and the electorate. Novel concept for the Government that they will never grasp because neither the PLP or FNM have the backbone to say we are going to run this airline like an airline should be run and we are going to have to make some difficult decisions along the way that is in the best interest of the company, its customers and shareholders.
Sheeprunner said it right......it’s a catch 22. As a tourist or a Bahamian for that matter, you’d like to enjoy the sights and scenes of the Islands, but you take your life in your own hands. Yes, the Americans will want answers and rightfully so, and the family of the deceased and those injured are going to sue somebody or some entity, and rightfully so!
Unfortunately, I wish them luck, because there is going to be little if any investigation, zero accountability, and the Government will simply chalk this up to “a very tragic and unfortunate incident.” Yes, it is a tragic and unfortunate incident and the Andy You can bank on that! The Government owes it to the deceased and to those injured to conduct a full and comprehensive investigation and to hold the responsible parties accountable - plain and simple! Now let’s see what happens. Mark my word!
And the by the way - those engines didn’t explode or catch fire. This wreaks of flammable combustion. Those engines have hardly been damage as you can see from the photos. And when an engine catches on fire, you can’t tell me that occupants on a boat are either killed or injured. The boat may eventually burn to the water line, and people will be jumping overboard, but this was more than a fire. This was an explosion I’m betting caused by fuel vapors trapped beneath the deck. But that’s how we Bahamians go......bush mechanics with WD40, wrench, screw driver, pliers and some tape that’ll fix everything!
Good for Dr. Sands! He is absolutely right! If you can’t pass a test, then you can’t be a MD. Go back to school or pursue a different career. In fact, one has to wonder, how did these so called MDs get to be MDs??
ThisisOurs.........and the reason you believe Great Britain should do all the things you listed for the Bahamas is what??? That’s part of the problem with this country.......people like you that believe other countries should help us. Good luck!!!
