food prices may continue to skyrocket even more as desperate and cash strapped farmers continue to convert food - crops farms into marijuana farms. As the demand for medical marijuana grows , the price continue to increase. And since marijuana can be grown and harvested in 90 days, it is less risky than traditional crops. . . . And even as The Bahamas moves towards legalizing marijuana, at least for medical purposes, it must put measures in place to ensure that , not only does the same thing happen here, but that farm lands are protected from the marijuana takeover and that food crop farming is actually increased. This may require additional subsidies to farmers or even to require marijuana farmers to grow food products on adjacent lands or one year out of every four years
One of the very first major events coming out of the Covid pandemic should be a national day of prayer and worship. Give thanks and prayers for being delivered from this evil wickedness. Make it a national event where every settlement in The Bahamad will hold prayer services on their parks. Here in Nassau numerous locations can be used including the Stadium, the fort, R M Bailey park etc. there should be a simulcast of the event and everyone in attendance or watching via electronic media should have olive oil present that will be blessed and prayer over before a national anointing takes place.
So is the Bahamas about to dump more vaccines or are Bahamians still lining up to take them? and the booster shots/ Hopefully Covid - 19 is saying goodbye for good this time,
Firstly, why seize two ships valued hundreds of millions for a bill that totals around $4 Million? Is it not general practice to seize only sufficient assets to comfortably cover the debt? If that is the case, then the proper thing to do is load all non-essential staff and crew onto the second ship and allow them to sail to Florida where the crew can be set free. Unless the crew is not from Florida or somewhere in easy access. But if the parent company is seriously bankrupt, a solution to this saga may be long coming and will involve a lot of expense to keep two ships maintained and serviced. Just to beginning of the covid financial fallout.
And the national stadium is in dire need of attention and repairs. Persons who went there to collect their national insurance checks etc. found themselves having to dodge and duck huge chunks of concrete falling from all the way from the top of the structure. With the potential to cause serious injuries. This will definitively have to be addressed and corrected before any national or international events are held there. And the one by the Paradise Island bridge!!! Who builds a steel structure right on the water? It will have to be demolished in a matter of short years.
Personally the stadium looks shitty! It is a definite eyesore and looks more like a building in disrepair, rather than one under construction. And adding the paint job in such an amateur style makes it even so less appealing. So maybe some of the funds will be used to make the building more sexy. More visually attractive and definitely appealing to be more safe and sound. Who, with good sense and even with not all their senses would take their children in that monstrosity in its present state? Or even go there themselves. Looks like a death trap with so many places to fall through or from.
least we forget: The Bahamas was experiencing a robust economy before the pandemic hit (or was orchestrated). Tourism was up by leaps and bounds and other sectors of the economy were showing growth. Minnis had run a tight financial ship and was about to see the benefits before the pandemic hit.
Then as the effects of the pandemic were about to subside, Minnis, being ill-advised, or for whatever other reasons, decided to call an early "snap" election. So now he must sit on the sidlines and watch the fruits of his labor.
. . What is truly unbelievable is that the BRAVE-led PLP Government would seek to send shock waves through the economy with so much talk about tax increases and new taxes. Even the efforst to increase tax collections could be kept more suttle. More action, less words. But obviously there has to be see that the great performance of the economy was due to efforts of the Brave Administration and nothing to do with minnis! Of course even a rookie in economics will know a complete turn-1round could not be accomplished in the short time Brave has been in office. But a year from now, The country and the world will be ble to see the true effects of the BRAVE Administration. Common sense will ditate that they maintain the stus quo mostly, and do not initiate any drastic financial or economic policies. Allow the economy to rebound naturally.
Many seem to forget this country and most of the world, is in a suspended or disrupted economy and not necessarily in recession. And according to Minnis dem, the economy was performing reasonably well before the pandemic. And, according to Brave dem, the economy is rebounding faster than expected and better than anticipated. If it is so, then why should there be utterances of new taxes or tax increases? Get up of your collective assets and stimulate the economy even more and let the revenue flow in. If the reports that hotel bookings are running 80-90 percent in this usually slow season, this may mean there will be a serious room shortage in the fall/winter. How can the country use this to their advantage? Cruise ship bookings may also be through the roof ad early as summer if Covid-19 continues to go into remission and if the brutal winter weather continues in the US for a few more months and repeats itself next winter. So yes, make tax increases your last resort.
Shouldn’t the word ‘Apparently ‘ have been used in this story? In the Bahamas, isn’t one innocent until proven guilty ? Of course the accused is no longer alive but the coroner’s inquest must still be completed before a determination is made, regardless of the evidence
