Haven’t had one of these in a while ay? Think they were able to trace the last ones and find the culprits. But during college days during exams, bomb threats were as common as toilet paper.. then sometimes they would call one in at the girls dorm in the middle of the night and they would have to stand outside in the snow while the dorm was searched by the fire marshal and police.
The national stadium is not being maintained and is in urgent need of repairs. Persons complaining that they were standing in line to collect their NIB checks and large chunks of concrete fell from the building barely missing them. Strangely enough, the stadium is painted the same color of the, now demolished, post office building that had similar problems with large chunks of falling concrete.
A lot of the boats coming out of the US for weekend fishing or day are rentals or charters. With the charters, the captains know fully the Bahamian law and know that the Northern Bahamas waters is not properly policed. Just a few years ago a Florida fisherman was charged with fisheries violations. It was discovered that he was illegally fishing in Bahamian waters and supplying a restaurant in Nee York with his catch.
Despite their drop in business, many Chinese restaurants kept many Bahamians fed during the pandemic. Beco they give larger portions than other restaurants and are more affordable than fast food, many Bahamians choose the Chinese restaurants where they could get an order of food for under $10 and be able to share it with two or three people or even four children. And many families, especially in the inner city were grateful that these restaurants were open during the pandemic.
Fred Mitchell knows himself that the unemployment rate is not even half of 40 percent now. Most people have gone back to work on the family islands and hotels are calling workers back to work on a daily basis. The question should be ‘how many lives(Yes Bahamians too) were saved as a result of government taking the action they did during the Corona pandemic.? Then Mitchell knows John Pinder is a political lackey who will throw numbers around loosely and sing for his supper. Especially if he thinks there will be a changing of the guard. And, finally, many of the furloughed workers are not because of restrictions the government has in place, but because of the extra precautions their employers are taking. And finally, the government has no control over when the cruise ships will return. They have to be given the all clear or ‘ok to sail’ by the Crnters for Disease Control in the US. Remember some of these ships had experiences with viral outbreaks that made almost everyone on board sick. So they will lean on the side of caution and most likely will not sail until summer. And even then with restrictions. Finally.
First: can someone with common sense explain the purpose of the vaccines? What exactly do they do? They are now reporting that the vaccines do not prevent you from getting the virus, but they reduce the severity of the symptoms if you do contract Covid-19. BUT 80-90% of persons who get the virus do not develop severe symptoms. They do not require hospitalization and sometimes the symptoms are so mild, the patient is not even aware he/she has the virus. The vaccines also do not prevent a patient from passing the virus on. That is why persons who get the vaccine are advised to continue wearing masks, washing hands, sanitizing and practicing social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. So what, exactly, does the vaccines do? . Second Or secondly: Everyone is expressing shock and dismay that the Covid-19 virus is mutating and creating different strains. Concern yes, but this is what viruses do. They adapt (mutate) to survive. And the fact that Covid-19 has mutated into so many different strains is an indication that it is running to the end of its course. It is having difficulty finding additional victims to infect. The virus is fighting to survive! So what should you do? Continue to wear masks, stay at home as much as possible, avoid large gatherings and sanitize. If you was take them vaccines, that’s your business but why rush? They give you NO additional protection than the things you have been doing under the emergency orders. Herd immunity is already in effect and if you don’t believe so answer this: Why don’t you see large numbers of doctors, nurses, police officers, customs, bank and store workers getting infected? Herd immunity is in effect and this Frankenstein virus should soon disappear.
So what is the benefit of the FNM government calling an early election, and even at this juncture? They are still battling the tail end of a pandemic and their efforts in combating it are yet to be appreciated. The corona virus will disappear over the next few weeks and tourism will start to come back strong I n the summer. People will get their jobs back and if the winter of 2021 is half as bitter as this one, The Bahamas will experience a most booming winter season. (Start cooperative advertising and promotion now). And with a booming tourism industry and declining, the FNM can go into May 2022 elections and come out with no less than 21 seats. The country will be in a position to tackle its debt without imposing too much additional tax burden on Bahamians. It’s a matter of trust and NO, I hold no brief for the FNM!
