This is like a blind man going into a clothing store and the store keeper sells him a pair of pink pants, red shoes, yellow shirt with purple flowers with a green cap with reindeer horns on it. something no one else wants.and yet he still sneakingly raises up the prices on him.

The move to stop and cancel the lease of the building that was being prepared for the post office was done clearly out of spite, politics and ignorance. This government knew that the Gladstone road location was not suitable if only for the distance is is located from downtown and the population that will be using the post office. And if they didn't know the people told them it was to far away. But they waved the Phil's building at the public to make their cancelling of the the plan they met in place more credible. How many millions did this blunder cost the Bahamian people?
Didn't Minnis learn from Ingrham's stop, review and cancel extravaganza that it was not they way to go? And not to mention the inconvenience. Many are still being denied this simple basic but essential service. So what now? Should government go back and try revive the agreement it had with the independence property? And negotiate the minimum amount of penalty? For certain just barely past this time next year, Minnis and The FNM will be past the halfway mark of their term in office.
Their resum'e for a second term in office is not looking good. The police killings, the Oban mis-deal, the increase in VAT, The purchase of the Freeport hotel which seems to be growing more mysterious and more expensive by the day, Who buys a hotel without the furnishings, The FNM did!, BPL board drama and BPL's four fires, Bahamasair stranding passengers for up to 16 hours two weekends back to back. The cut back in uniform assistance are all strikes against them..
And for the hits:
Yes, they did have two successful back-to-school openings, and Bah mar is fully opened. The Pointe is expected to open under their watch, but what has this government here done to improve the lives of the average Bahamian, or at least reduce their misery level. Build the Soldier road extension or do something. And are we going into Election 2022 without a post office?

Does Laing have an exit strategy in case the Bahamas decides it wants to leave the WTO? or will the country bleed through its eyes and ears as Britain is doing as it tries to escape the EU. Laing fails to mention that taxes on many items have increased since the Minnis government came to power. For example those businesses that are not on Minnis/Marlon Johnson's blue eyed favorites list or do not wish to go through all the red tape they put out to get an exemption are now paying 32% (customs duties plus VAT). AND one wondering why so many local stores are closing while Bahamasair was solidly overbooked to Maimi/Ft. Lauderdale. This present government does not even seem to have common business sense so unless there is some magic wand they will wave to increase revenue and reduce expenditure, they will have no choice but to raise VAT again in three years. And if the government can reduce tariffs to join WTO, why they cannot do it now to benefit Bahamians.. Is this a pie in the sky?

BTW Toyota is recalling several 2017 vehicles that may catch fire. The Toyota 4 Runner and elantra among them as well as some Lexus models. Brake fluid leaks on to circuit board and may cause it to catch fire. Toyota advises parking your vehicle outside until you get it fixed.

John says...

Can see a law requiring you to produce a driver's licence on the spot with 12 hours grace. Sometimes you do get into those situations where you rush out the house without your wallet. And there are women who have 6 and 7 handbags. So a 12 hour grace period should be considered.
As for insurance, Insurance companies are telling you to keep the insurance certificates in a secure place and not in your vehicle. So does this throw that advice out the window? And what about persons who may drive a service vehicle, like a delivery truck? They jump into the vehicle assuming the previous driver left the insurance in the vehicle only to find it is not there. And the main office is closed over the weekend So he gets a ticket for up to $200.00. Twice in a year and he is unemployed and broke. What is the difficulty with giving the driver 224-48 hours to produce? We adapt laws designed for the US where there are multiple states and thousands of miles of driving. And persons will avoid states where they know they have outstanding warrants. Our laws were designed to driver friendly to allow drivers to be compliant and not rack up a bunch of traffic fines (some on technicalities) that they cannot afford to pay and so they must give up their driver's licence.

As for the open container law, many who would stop and get a cold on on the way home must will now have to wait until they get home to have a cold one. This law will require a serious cultural shift. People who go party hopping or even beach hopping must now do it without a cold one in the vehicle. Drunk driving vs drinking while driving. Will this cause a person to hoorse back there beers then jump in his car to try get somewhere?

@bogart if you was this young man on your way to work, clean cut and all, and the police stop you, knock you to the ground and in the struggle you lose your tooth. They have you handcuffed and subdued. And all you are saying is hey the handcuffs are cutting into my wrist and I am choking on my own blood ( from the tooth you knocked out my mouth) ‘ Dawg at least sit me up and let me breathe and not let me choke on my own blood.’ And the only response from the monster in police uniform is to the effect ‘you ger soon be bleeding from your nevk’. What animal is this?

Then there is another young man who has been missing in Abaco going on three weeks and presumed dead. He was shot at a night club and his body was taken from the scene by the apparent shooter in a private vehicle, and was expected to be taken to the local clinic. They never showed up at the clinic and both men have not been seen since, despite pleas from the family of the man who was shot, to return the body. The car the shooter was driving has since been discovered burned down. This has had to be one of the most tragedy filled years in this country for some time.

Wasn't this how they bambozzled and hoodwinked Bahamian businesses in the first instance. When VAT was introduced it was supposed to be a part of a process that eliminated customs duties and stamp tax and replaced it with VAT. However the government got greedy and not only decided to keep the two forms of taxation running concurrently, but they have now also increased the VAT. Bahamians are at this minute being taxed more than ever before in the history of this country. And the economy continues to shrivel under government's greeedy paws and insatiable appetite for tax revenue. WTO may have good benefits but one should be wary of any organization that is attempting to develop a one world system. "Revelation 17-18 shows there are three components to the one world system of the Last Days. There’s a one world religion, a one world government, and a one world commercial system. All have been developing for longer than most people suspect and are rapidly coming to fulfillment. As this happens they’re becoming more and more obvious to the public. No longer just the realm of the fanatical conspiracy theorists, today only those who refuse to see are unaware of their existence." AKA New World Order.
