How many $6.9 million worth of squad cars, many of which don't last a year, will this country have to purchase before you realize that the police alone cannot solve this crime situation? Police going in the areas and playing Starsky and Hutch, or Ten Speed and Brown Shoes will not cut it. The country is (unfortunately) breeding criminals and murderers. The average age of criminals is not increasing. So as fast as a criminal is killed, locked up or some how or the other removes off the streets, another takes his place. And now it is not just drug dealers and gang bangers being killed.. The general public is at risk. Even innocent little school children. And yet no one has been charged and convicted of being a gang leader or even being involved in gang activity. Put half that $6.9 million into development and traiing programs for the youth and the returns will be greater than police cars being written off in a matter of weeks or months.
They can’t get the budget right, they cannot get crime under control. Bahamians are paying more taxes and their standard of living is deteriorating. They are quick to demolish the shantytowns because they represent the failures of the government and the country.
Did tThe Tribune intentionally post this story and the one with the web shops employees next to each other so that the readers can see the parallels? One the one hand the web shops were closed during the recent protest march and their employees were told if they wanted to be paid for those hou, they would have to participate in the march. The claim is they were being mistreated. On the other hand, elected MP’s are being told they cannot vote their conscience or even vote to represent the people who elected them and can only vote in favor of the government sponsored budget. The consequences is otherwise they will be fires. No questions. Which is the worser
Donald Trump just announced he has air marked $50 Millon Dollars to fight and eradicate gangs across the US. This will include the bloodiest MS 13 gang. Members of this gang are sneaking back into the US through Mexico and taking residence in US Suburban and rural areas, non traditional gangs area. Trump feels this will eventually cause gang violence to spill into these areas and are urging officials to use the money and every available resources to flush these gangsters out their communities.
Let us not forget it was a police officer that started the first gang in The Bahamas. And it has always been suspected that some ranking officers of the police force are associated with gangs and drugs, hence the head hunches never get caught. Let us also not forget that many of America’s major cities, including Chicago, Baltimore, San Francisco, Atlanta are also overrun with gun violence and murders. And London is also experiencing one of its highest rates of stabbings, many that results in death, in its history. The capital of Mexico had 30,000 murders last year and persons are losing their lives for not wanting to join gangs or refusing to sell drugs. And in many instances they send the head of the victim to rival gangs, drug cartels or family. In South America the violence has become so bad, gang members are now going to Mexico and sneaking into the US. When Donald Trump first won the presidency he had planned to send the military into cities like Chicago and clean up the streets. Now here’s the homework.. what one single thing all these populations where this violence is happening have in common.
The troublesome things are the murders are no longer concentrated to specific areas but they are occurring all over the island. And the victims are no longer known criminals or gang bangers but businessmen, school children and other hard working Bahamians.
Whenever they come bragging about how much they reduce crime and about how safe you are, the killings does just skyrocket. Are we in the Bible days where it says so many men will be killed there will be seven women left to every one man? And the woman will beg and even pay a man to father a child with them because they don’t want to die an old maid.
Donald Trump says there are 2.5 million jobs available but only 2 million persons looking for jobs. As more companies increase their output and government goes forward with its plans to expand and improve infrastructure more jobs will be available. So the restrictions on immigration will be relaxed. Bahamians will be among those traveling to the US looking for a job and better way of life. These will be mostly qualified people or persons who already have friends and family in the US. Can the Bahamas afford the brain drain? This migration will also cause an erosion of the tax base. And in the main time The Bahamas also expects growth and revitalization of its economy. Will there be sufficient qualified workers? Or will the continued increases in taxes and obvious deterioration in the quality of living in the Bahamas, especially for the working class and middle class Bahamians force them away
