You bet your last dollar this contract does not pass the taste test (ok smell). Something stinks to the high heavens. Watch this: The total comprehensive income for Bahamas Waste Company is around $2.9 million for a quarter. That averages out to $5.8 million for one half year. So a company like Bahamas Waste will have to work almost 9 months or 3/4 of a year to earn the income that was paid to this one contractor for several weeks of hurricane cleanup. And Perry Christie said it best "Its easy to pi$$ away government funds." And this is a clear example of the peoples' money being pi$$ed away!" Call da police.

BPL has been on the job for two years now and they have yet to tell us how they plan to fix BEC and keep the lights on and bring the cost of electricity down. In facts new equipment should be in the pipe line and set to be up and running by years end. We done tired hearing about the broke down equipment that constantly fails. What are you doing about it BPL? Or was you just brought here to add to our misery level and suck up our money. At least when Leslie Miller was there you know when 'your as$ was gern sweat."

So why did *The Tribune* hide the story about governments' plans for the post office site and for the revitalisation of downtown all they way in middle of the Business Section. Along with its plans to invest in gyms and airports on the family islands? Should have been headline news. To generate some positive interest in the country.

John says...

Had Branville not mis-stepped and took the opposition senate post from Loretta Butler-Turner, and had he not prematurely resigned from that post, and had he continued with talks with the FNM and disbanded the DNA, Branville and at least 9 of his candidates could be sitting members of parliment today. But maybe it was better this way. There was a resounding vote for the FNM and so there has to be no coalition government, no compromise no holding hands under the table. Politics has become a very expensive activity in the Bahamas, and it will be very expensive for Branville to keep a party going for another five years. And when one crunches the election poll numbers of the DNA, they are far from impressive. No one in the DNA came even close to winning his/her seats and that includes.the leader himself. In fact there are few seats, if any, well maybe two or three, where the DNA votes could affect the outcome of the elections. In other words the DNA got an ole fashion, Bahamian cut behind. So unless he wants to keep it going mostly as an expensive hobby, and to feed his own ego, the DNA has no significant impact on politics in the country today. As at now it is a non entity. Of course things change and since there is no compelling reason to do so, McCartney can wait a few months or even a year or two before making his decision to disband the DNA.

John says...

The FNM has to show some backbone and firmness and resolve to get this country back on track again, at least financially. The message has to be resounding that when you do wrong, especially when it comes to mishandling, stealing or abusing government's funds/taxpayers' money, the hammer will fall hard on you and the chips will fall where they may. But the power of this blow was deflated when the attorney general announced, somewhat prematurely, that there would be no prosecution of elected officials and their cronies who abused, misused or t'ief the people's money. So no except for shame, and only a lil bit of that, they have nothing to fear.

Well listen who talking. When the people was crying crocodile tears to Hubert Ingraham when he allowed Jose Cartolones to dig up and block up so many of the roads in New Providence all at once and for such long periods. This action singularly put more companies out of business than probably any other event in the history of the country. And just before the 2012 election when BEC was despite power going off so often, they were going around disconnecting consumers every two weeks. And they were telling consumers that Hubert Ingraham brought the consultants in and it was his consultants that advised BEC to disconnect every two weeks. And then there are still some people in the country that the citizenry expect to be treated with respect and honor. And when you get up in a public forum and make disparaging remarks or threats against those persons, then that will cause you to lose elections.

John says...

Hubert Ingraham is RIGHT!! The government should not meddle in Bah Mar as far as the sale of the property is concerned. But what the government MUST DO is stop the Chinese from 'sissying around" and missing deadlines and not masking a real and concerted effort to get the property opened. Fully open. In fact The government should be benefiting from the penalties levied against The China Construction Company because one third of the assets of Bah Mar are from the people of the Bahamas with the understanding that the hotel would be up and running and provide jobs for Bahamians and stimulate and grow the Bahamian economy. the Chinese must be made to account.

Anyone in business can feel the difference in the economy. it is like you just fell of a cliff and are now in a state of unconsciousness. Can't move, can barely understand what's going on around you. Just looking around for a friendly face in the (economic) crowd. Bills piling up and no income coming in. But hey Minnis and FNM, you are in the driver's seat now. better make something happen fast because the people are hurting and they put their trust in you. Stopping the t'iefin and letting the people know about it is good, very well done, but now we needs to get this economy moving.

And anyone holding loans with RBC or any other bank. Check on your loan regularly. Banks are reluctant to make new loans under the current economic climate. So they are finding every way to milk as much as possible from existing customers and borrowers especially. One bank in particular has increased its loan rates on some loans from 6.5% to 12 %. This is despite having flyers advertising loans at 5.99%. And when you query their actions, they give all kinds of flimsy excuses. Pay the loan off or go to another bank if you have to. Other things banks are doing: Taking up to three days to apply commercial deposits and even some personal deposits to accounts. Imagine a bank holding maybe several million in suspense for several days at a time. Accounts with overdraft balances end up paying interest on money that has already been deposited and sometimes when checks clear they send the account over the limit resulting in additional penalties and bank fees. And the interest rates on credit cards is 18%. When you use a check to pay your credit card, the bank will take 3 days to apply the payment. Not realizing this the card holder gets hit with interest fees every month. And the bank is left smiling.

Should the police set up a special unit to deal specially with these types of killings? Who exactly are doing these killings? They are far to frequent, the executions are almost always professional and they get little or no attention because the police report s are always suffixed with 'recently released from prison ', 'he was known to the police', 'he was being electronically monitored', 'he was out on bail for murder ', or in this case gun possession. And in most cases these execution type murders go unsolved. It is time the Bahamian public know who have been given a license to kill in this country.' And if special interest groups can spend millions to 'save the bays' or on other political agenda, someone needs to spend some money to find out who killing (out) our young men.
