Did you know The Bahamas is experiencing one of the most peaceful and bloodless summers in 6, 7 ,8 years? Murder for the year is down 15 - 20 percent and can be down by as much as fifty percent for the month of July compared to July 3015. There just seems to be another type of calm on New Providence especially. Maybe the reality of convicts getting 35, 40 and as much as 55 year sentences for murder is starting to set in. Let not the police spoil it by becoming overzealous and going back to harassing innocent citizens.
Who remembers the New York black outs of 1992? Their problem was also a shortage of power generation. But with proper forward planning they were able to fix the problem and it hadn't repeated itself in almost two decades. BEC/BPL knows that it will have to make enormous payouts for equipment both for replacement and expansion. It must therefore plan for it. All of its cash cannot be consumed in fuel and salaries. While $800 million may seem a large amount if BEC was to plan and replace a generator every two/ to three years it could be manageable. As more efficient equipment is installed fuel costs will go down decreasing cash outlays
BPL was paid $1 million to do an assessment and review of BEC before signing the management contract. If you believe they didn't know that BEC has peak demands during the summer months almost double that of winter then you also believes the PM does not dye his hair, the young people want him to stay on as PM and Bah Mar will be opening soon. And what if Bah Mar had open Ed last year? Most of us would be burning candles from both ends and fanning with newspaper.
How are the shareholders suppose to know each other and know who is interested. They should have had a meeting where shareholders were invited to meet each other and find out who a is interested in being a director. Then have the nominaion and selection process.
Minnis need to take a page out of Donald Trump's book.. And I am no fan of trump. But the Republicans said they would not back Trump as the presidential nominee. Trump went ahead and is pulling off a successful convention with the help of family and friends. Now that he has gotten this far the, Republican Party has no choice but to fall in line and back him. Else the Us will not have the moral authority to lead. How can you go around the world chiding democracy and human rights if you do not exercise it at home? There will always be troublemakers and detractors. Stay focused and move the party forward. Those who ain't marching to the same beat have to fall out rather than make the whole parade look bad and disorganized.
Either Miller is showing a sign of political maturity, which many politicians lack, and/or he is making sure not to burn any political bridges so the is not left out in the cold, regardless of who wins the next general election. Wise move for him,
