No, my friend. It is far worse. The politicians don't believe a word they are saying. But they know how stupid their constituents are, so they give them what they want to hear. Our problem is not stupid politicians, it is stupid constituents. That is what you get with education standards at all time lows for decades. If our constituents were clever, we would soon get rid of stupid politicians. But no, the PLP has been with us and prospered for 50 years and they will prosper for another 500. As we get stupider, they become stronger. They are our brightest future.
@John, what Banker is describing is happening to all mankind, not just Bahamians. There is nothing racist about it. Robots are equal opportunity job takers.
A pilotless drone could cover 100 times the sea surface area, cost 100 times less, save million in fuel and direct patrol boats to spotted poachers 100 times more effectively. But I guess you can't ask for a bribe from a drone, so obviously a bad idea.
Absolutely right. But he has his future political career to think about. How else is someone with no qualifications whatsoever supposed to make a great living, if not from constant suckling at the teat of the taxpayer? And to do that he has to spout the rubbish the unwashed masses want to hear.
@bcitizen brings up a very important point. You want to tax AirBnB? Fine. Get them to slam on a 7% tax on all bookings. They collect the money, they pay you the tax. It has nothing to do with the guy renting his property. Why should he have to register with some government department? For what? So that he needs to pay a bribe to your officials to keep on working? Things are working perfectly as is: if some accommodation is sub-standard, the client complains, gives a bad review, others stay away. No, now the effing government inspector is going to decide if the room is "suitable"?? We all know what that looks like. Do the UK, Italy, Greece, Spain have a special Law for AirBnB rental?? No. And they collect millions of time more money than the Bahamas from the sector. And now D'Aguilar, who can't even fill out a customs form, is going to bring the shining light of government regulation to the sector through legislation?? Do piss off, you undereducated megalomaniac. If this government does not get its finger out of its arse, it will end up like the last, PDQ. But the Bahamian people might not be content with just voting you out this time.
I have actually spoken to certain current Ministers about the very point you raise. They are in complete agreement with you. But there again, they also know their constituents. As you point out, they are parochial, uneducated and fear change. This is for internal consumption only.
That is all fine. But if someone is injured, as he seemed to be (have no idea if he was or just faking it for sympathy), then put him in a wheelchair and wheel him in. Or find some other means. Anything humane. Whatever we might think of Gibson, that was a bad picture being put out there by the Bahamas for the world to watch. Not our proudest moment.
There is no reasoning with you, is there? Historical facts are not facts and proof is not proof, unless it fits in with your preconceptions. That is what happens when you believe your pathetic and ill thought out opinions come from God himself. Yes, I know, the earth is flat, it is 4,000 years old, it was created in 7 days, we all come from Adam and Eve...and you are a "Reverend". Sure.

The PLP cannot get back to its roots. Drug running is so 1980s and so much harder than it was.
