One of the best editorials of the year.
And Simon says:
"Sadly, the bishop and his fellow performers cum protagonists seem like stock figures from central casting hired as part of a satire showcasing the pitfalls of prejudice, ignorance and bigotry."
Ouch!
The danger is when people who are ignorant, truly ignorant, think they are the smartest, most holy in the room.
This is the Christian Council in The Bahamas.
The Christian Council of The Bahamas has done more harm, than good, to this country.
I guess these Christians forget that God has eyes. God can see what these people do, as opposed to just taking them on their word.
Fernander, please stay in your own lane.

What is wrong with being straight and tolerating others who don't feel your same way?
It's not like the gays are the ones taking this country down.
I like being straight. But, does that necessarily mean I have to hate others not like me?
The intolerance for other ideas, and the lack of Christian love could be the basis for our national failure, don't you think?
Otherwise, yes, Keith Bell should go.
Maybe he hasn't been let go because he knows too much about someone.

Letter and comment are exactly right.
Almost beyond belief, but true.
How do our "leaders" not see this?
They do.
They just don't care. They just don't care.
We have failed our own people.

At some point, we must have people who were not educated by those who are enslaving us.
Too much money is leaving this small country in interest payments alone.
It is costing us our future.
The interest The Bahamas is paying on these loans is sinful.
There is no way this is sustainable, under any definition of sustainable.
The current financial arrangements are killing this country.
We do not need arcane language and palliative jargon to obstruct the view from the ground.
The Bahamian people are suffering, specifically due to the loans taken out by our politicians and the financial obligations made on our behalf, without our consent.
Does the public know what collateral is pledged to secure these loans?
No. And, we won't know until it is time to settle up.

The Tribune editorialist states,"Against all this, one thing is clear – simply ignoring the situation in Haiti is not an option either. The instability can affect the whole region, but more than that, these are our neighbours, and if we can help, we should."
Yes, we should help.
The first thing we should do is to learn history, and study the geopolitics of the "big" countries.
Haitians didn't fail. The international community failed Haiti.
We have allowed the rough shod treatment of a sovereign nation, which has been plundered throughout modern history. We have allowed the kidnapping of Haiti's president and allowed a foreign power to install and support a brutal dictator. Now, we think it is OK to send armed men into Haiti?

The idea of insurance companies being involved in health care should be morally disgusting for true Christians.
How is it we allow a two-tier system for Bahamians well being?
Some, who end up in Princess Margaret certainly don't get the care they would get in Doctor;s Hospital.
But, good Christians that we are, see nothing wrong with this, do we?
Better to be out bashing gays and lesbians than truly helping our least fortunate, hey?
Funny how we have created a whole industry that profits from denying health care to those who need it.
Most insurance agents know nothing about medicine, yet we pay them to do exactly what?
Yes, I want to know.
How do insurance companies and their employees contribute to better health care in The Bahamas?
We all know they don't, but continue the lie because so many of our friends and family are involved. And, of course they are good church goers.

It is pitiful, you are right.
What do the statistics say about where our country is financially?
Does it matter who did, or didn't say it?
Is it true? Are we broke, or not?
If for once, we focused on the issue at hand, instead of making sure the messenger is killed, perhaps we would get somewhere.
It isn't bad press and haters which are taking this country down.
It is our dismal performance.
True, or not, no matter who is saying it?

Worse, those in political power know exactly what is coming regarding our debt obligations and financial condition.
We are in very dangerous territory and those at the top who know this are betting on the ignorance of the people and the total lack of accountability for those in office.
We are in deep do do and yet virtual silence from those politicians and experts living the life. These people do not need to worry how high their BPL, BTC,bills are, and the exorbitant regressive taxes placed on the Bahamian people.
Sad, truly sad.

Please Dr. Minnis stop with the BS.
You are part of the problem here in The Bahamas.
Politics has killed this country.
Stop spewing nonsense.
Both parties suck. Both have contributed to the horrible and desperate circumstances Bahamians find themselves in.
There are in fact two factions in The Bahamas.
PLP and FMN are in one faction. The Bahamian people are in the other.
Both the FNM and PLP stand in direct opposition to the Bahamian people.
You guys from both parties are the same.
"The People" have been screwed by both greedy parties, with what we have now is proof of that.
The Bahamas needs to pass a law that says if you've ever been in politics in The Bahamas past or present, you may never hold office again.
Only then, can we possibly break the deadly cycle of graft, corruption, nepotism, inefficiency, slackness, and bold-faced lies, As far as I can see, these are the only things either political party has offered the Bahamian people since independence.
