And, just ask yourself how our judicial system did with Sarkis and Baha Mar? Justice? Give me a break. We are considered a banana republic by any educated person who steps foot into our country. We are delusional, at best.
Ai, as currently designed and implemented, is about controlling and enslaving us, NOT to liberate us. And, none of these tech geniuses have bothered with the question of how everyone will feed their families, as they currently are laying off millions of people. This is happening right now.
I do not see where anyone quoted here truly understands where AI is headed. Soon, AI will far surpass the intellect of every attorney, combined. ChatGPT is just the beginning. Why pay a lawyer hundreds of dollars an hour when AI can do the exact same thing, more accurately, instantaneously. rather than waiting weeks, months and years for a human lawyer to get around to it. If this article is the best we can do in understanding where all this is headed, we've already lost. And, let's be real. Anyone who reads the national papers, even poorly, understands that the lack of foreign investment is due to the corruption, pay-to-play, utter ignorance and dishonesty of far too much of our society and political system. I mean, my gosh, do we really not get this? How many times does this same story have to be told before we get it? As Curly from the Three Stooges famously said, "Is everybody stupid?"
Thx for the link, Just read it and his bio. Perhaps, one of the most inspiring reads this year for me, and not for lack of reading. Humility is one of the most important traits a person can have. Faulkner's work certainly stands taller to me for this crucial trait. Don't agree with everything, as many things have materially, truly changed in these intervening years. I have recently told some friends that we are now living in a post-truth world This is entirely due to the rapid rise of AI. I am certain that not many could have predicted the rapid game changing tech now in existence. Quite literally, there is little we can now trust. Whether we see it with our own eyes, hear it with our own ears. The truth has become almost impossible to determine. What are the implications of this? Not good!
So, how does this end, Tal? With a biblical debt jubilee? When you say, or the bible says, "All debt will eventually have to get settled in full", help me understand how you see this. Look at what Greece went through a few years ago. Debt seems to be the ultimate trap to take over the politics of a nation, as I see it, and control their resources. Look at our own Debt to GDP ratio. This really doesn't not bode well for the vast majority of our fellow Bahamians. And, there is no doubt as to the real reason this administration is courting the IDB and others to continue to lend to us. There are no innocents here. This is a calculated entrapment. I have no doubt on this matter. We have allowed ourselves to be placed in a very vulnerable position.
I can't argue with that. However, let us remember the Titanic. There were many, even while the ship listed perilously, who continued to tell all the others that this was an unsinkable ship. History is quite clear on the outcomes of decades of corrupt leadership in a country. It is not pretty. And further, if anyone is truly spending much time listening to the climate scientists, which I am not optimistic that we are, time is not on our side. The acceleration of nearly everything, including the melting of land-based glaciers, does not bode well for our not-too-distant future. I know how old I am, and it will not likely happen in my lifetime. However, I feel we have an obligation to at least the next couple of generations. Our present political class could not seem to care less. I first typed in "leadership", and then realized that not one of our current politicians could be called leaders. Home is where the heart is. I am with you IslandWarrior, but I must be real about the state of our nation. I am not too optimistic, I admit.
We have a choice. We can appreciate our own and pay them a living wage, or we can embrace the global labor market and take what we can get. As a business owner and corporate manager, I can comfortably say, that if we did embrace this view, there would be very few Bahamians left in The Bahamas. The stats show clearly our productivity, or lack thereof, and for all to see is our national work ethic. Do you realize what would happen if we opened up our country to Mexican construction workers? There wouldn't be but a fraction of jobs left for Bahamians. Our work ethic, by and large, is a joke. I have long advocated bringing in talented and proven managers, since it is so difficult to find people capable of running ANY of our State Owned Enterprises. Besides speaking to many Bahamian owners and managers who all say the same thing. We truly lack an educated, honest, reliable work force. Most Bahamians are unemployable in the global market. This is a fact. If we were a transparent country, and eliminated even a small fraction of the theft, incompetence, waste and fraud, we would have more than enough money to pay our professionals a living wage. They say it takes @ $120,000 to be in the middle class in this country. Seems only a handful of people make that much. Politicians and their cronies, web shop owners and criminals. None of which have any real education, or ethical mores. Sad, but true.
