"Ryan Pinder KC, the attorney general, yesterday said the Davis administration was not worried by the New York appeals court’s ruling and its potential impact as the Government “has to be involved” in whatever developments take place.

“We’re not concerned. The Government has the mind of the Bahamian people first and foremost. Whatever happens, the Government has to be involved in the process and, ultimately, they have to come to government to effect any kind of Order or any kind of result that they achieve, and the Government - when they approach that - they will approach that with the mindset of Bahamians first,” Mr Pinder said."

Hopefully, those presently in government will be long gone when this needs government approval.

I understand your feelings.
However, my guess is that the BahamasAir employees have had legitimate complaints for quite some time.
And, like all complaints filed against the Bahamian government, they were politely ignored and probably not even acknowledged.
Anyone who has done work for, or worked for the government knows this to be true.
A shrewd strategist who wanted to make a point would have done exactly what these people did.
Now, what is the owners response to this action?
What does a parent do when their child refuses to listen?
Does this government not behave like children?
Read the frikkin papers. Our political leadership is lost. Missing in Action.

Moncurcool,

Privatization solves nothing.
Perhaps you are not old enough to watch what has happened as we have privatized the world.
Any government can hire competent, honest and well-educated managers.
The Bahamas has not.
We remain politicized at every facet of our society.
This has allowed the ignorant and selfish politicians to hold sway over business decisions, of which no politician I know of here has the requisite skill set to do.
When a competent manager takes over the operation of any enterprise, they do what it takes to make that entity succeed. They plan, they organize, they hire and they certainly fire those who are not working for the good of the company.
Please stop with the same old "we need to privatize" nonsense.
Hire good managers. Pay them well. And jail any politician who gets in their way.

You are correct.
Walker cannot think himself out of a wet paper bag.
The Davis administration and Walker should get along just fine.
Politics gets more disgusting each and every day.

Porcupine says...

Thank you so much for that.
I was depressed in reading the headlines.
Your comment allowed me a needed burst of spontaneous laughter.

Disagree. Unions are the only way workers can get a say.
Perhaps these unions have failed us. But, the rising cost of living and all other increases are a direct result of corporate greed, not overpaid workers.
I am happy to help educate you on this matter, as it is crucial to understand who our real enemies are. Hint: Our true enemies are not the ones struggling to make ends meet each week.
Our enemies are those at the very top of the pyramid.
They are more than happy to see us fighting amongst ourselves. In fact, they count on it.

Porcupine says...

You are completely correct.
On the Family Islands it is even worse, as the frozen and refrigerated foods can sit on the dock and in the back of the pickup truck for far too long before it gets to the food stores.
However, even with traceability, how many actually of these items can be returned and the supplier held accountable?

It is sad to see the Dept. of Inland Revenue, perhaps unwittingly, so negatively impact the economy of The Bahamas.
We must remember why these draconian measures arose in the first place.
Soon, there will truly only be the rich and the poor in this country.
And, the vast majority will be the poor.
Sad to see the direction we are headed.

Porcupine says...

Not one word of that made any sense, birdie.
Did it make sense in your head?
