The event's actual intent was to make a political statement, with the "lets donate" as a cover so the actual intent of the gathering is not so obvious. At least money was raised, so that is good once it goes to good use.

Why is the alleged rape of an American citizen any more important to know of than that of a Bahamian woman or child? There are well over 100 reported rapes committed against adult Bahamian women each year according to police, and an unknown number against children. We don't get almost any of those reports when they come in to the police. So this is not just a tourist matter when it comes to reports to the public. You want a report brought to parliament only on sex crimes against foreigners? The parliament is the people's parliament - why aren't you calling for this same disclosure regarding sexual assaults against Bahamian women and children in their own country? Would think you would want all information, not just information on tourists.

I just think it is beyond telling that this letter writer says he is penning an open letter - which is supposed to by its very nature be akin to transparency - but he hides his identity therein! Talk about betraying one's own supposed beliefs. Transparency and openness means taking off the masks and shields and revealing the truths to the readers and hearers. Ever heard of it? Then he says he is making a call to arms, but wants all the troops to line up for battle while he continues to hide both his sword and shield. The hypocrisy is stunning.
