Why can't reporters check their facts or why cannot the editor check the story before it goes to print? Grand River Enterprises is not "a major Canadian cigarette manufacturer". There are THREE companies that produce over 88% of cigarettes manufactured in Canada. There are twenty other companies that contribute to the remaining 12%. Grand River Enterprises is one of three of the largest of the small companies. Hardly a MAJOR Canadian cigarette manufacturer. Why not do a bit of fact checking instead of just reprinting the company spin handed out to you.
Rory you are right who regulates it here or is this a major reason for the foreigner to come here to get past strict regulations at home?
Mr Moss knows full well that his leader has been really busy over the past 20 months on the important affairs of state. These involve regaining 2 percent of BTC which the country cannot afford, Sorting out the numbers shops, the road fiasco left by the FNM, a new public holiday and establishing a carnival in the summer to rival Trinidad, New Orleans and Rio. Give him a break, he has not had time to look at the crime problem because he also had to take his buddies to visit the Pope.
It is a worry to think that the Florida Shipowners Group thinks that the Nassau Container Port (NCP) or even the Bahamas are in the Caribbean! If anyone should know where ports are it should be a shipowners group. A small point, but a point that many Bahamians seem to be ignorant of.
Since when has a line in the sand ever achieved anything in any country? When has any administration ever won any of the "wars on.." poverty, terrorism, drugs or crime? Plans require thought, planning and strategies, these are not things high on the list of characteristics of the present administration.
Is it possible to see a copy of the "letter"? Maybe local pet owners could check the vets that had signed the letter and then if their vet is a signatory the pet owner can show their opinion of the letter by voting with their feet! Just check the signatories and go to a vet who did not sign. If however it is a letter from the VMAB, who decided to send it, was it approved by the committee or by the general membership? Maybe it was a decision by the chairman without consultation in which case pet owners should ask their vet where they stand onthis issue before continuing their pets' relationship with the vet.
None of this should be surprising. When you look at the history of the Bahamas and what shady history Bahamians been involved in in the past, it is almost impossible to expect 100% honesty in any dealings especially when you add add to that the entitlement promised by the "founder" and you have got what you see. As for security cameras, you all know full well that if there is some "suspicious activity" then the discs or memory will go missing from the cameras as happened at BTC when they had the major power loss and none of the back systems worked and there was no video data available to view!
Hey Reality_check it does seem as if the US has followed its own nefarious ways by getting deep in debt to China. However they have gone one step further by being so far in debt that China cannot allow the US dollar to fall or they will go with it. It does seem a really risky path to travel. I do agree that for almost a century the US has been changing other countries fortunes by luring them into heavy international borrowing through US 'stealth' agencies.
