another sad statement.....people will line up for hours in a queue, causing inconvenience for others in transit and in one instance an accident over fried chicken. Such a brilliant people have evolved in this nation in the last 40 years. Truly would be a " Greek tragedy" but in this instance, seems to be another conquest.
Teachers and now students. This place is beyond ridiculous. The crime is getting more and more brazen and the spillover is expanding rapidly. It is obvious that the leadership is completely out of its depth.
Perhaps a "work for your repatriation trip home" program would be a better deterrent. When illegals are captured, they must be charged a financial penalty which proportionally covers all costs associated with their being repatriated. Have them clean the island of debris, cut bush, paint public buildings etc. Once the debt has been paid, they can enjoy, for the majority, their first plane ride home.
When the previous government raised the import tax on new cars, a former minister was advised that they were turning the country into a used car nation. His retort was there were more than enough persons of "means" who can afford new cars at inflated prices.
Now since VAT has been introduced and the economy took a sharp turn south, one wonders how many persons of "means" are left to purchase vehicles at ridiculous prices.
We have one a very sad selection of leaders with limited foresight for far too long!
“To believe an island boy such as myself has been awarded the distribution for Anheuser-Busch, it’s very pleasing, and I’m glad to be the distributor. Most importantly, a Bahamian will be the distributor.”
Sands was a shareholder in Commonwealth Brewery at its inception. His father's company sold the shares to acquire the Bayparl Building lease at Bay and Parliament. The Sand's family years later sold out their business to Burns House and proceeds from this sale along with reported Lyford Cay financing established Bahamian Brewery. Needless to say, "island boy's" relationship with another Lyford Cay liquor group benefited him when boasting control of retail outlets in seeking this new distributorship.
The " Bahamian" claim by Sands is smoke and mirrors. As far as he being "an island boy". one would guess if you schooled in the UK from an early age, spent holidays on private islands and a member of an elitist sailing and social club, then there is a wide latitude on this claim. Let's not forget "island boy's" family business sponsoring regattas and at the same time spending a fortune having expert foreign sail boat designers craft a vessel to compete against islanders who have been building their own for generations. After all, "island boy" has to show he is the best!
So now "island boy's" dream has come true and he has wrested the world's largest brewer's business from his "non-Bahamian" competitor. What will be interesting is if, in time, AB buys Heineken and then once again, who distributes what will be all up in the air again. Perhaps a mainland boy will be the spoiler at that point.
The Haitians from the north shore, where 90% of those who are now domiciled in The Bahamas are from, murdered their liberator from the French and then proceeded to burn every plantation on the island. They have been starving ever since. The people of Cap Haitian and the north coast are the bane of Haiti and they are all over The Bahamas now!!!
One would hope that the representative for Long Island recognizes her constituency's hard line on the boat people from the south and does not return with bleeding heart!
