Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah! Since when has the government become so conscientious? They didn't bother to ask anyone anything "scientifically" when criminalizing pot and ruining untold 1000's of peoples lives. How come they need a scientific survey to legalize it after most of the western world has already done so?
Instead of wasting time on this, they need to conduct a scientific survey to gauge Bahamians’ feelings on the overwhelming numbers of Haitians in our country doing jobs that unemployed Bahamians should be doing!
It is no coincidence that after hurricane Dorian forced hundreds of "unknowns" to move from Abaco and Freeport, Nassau is now having a sharp spike in unusual crime. The only thing surprising is it took so long for the increase in crime to be reported to the public!
The police have no idea where to start looking for these culprits because they are new to the streets with no M.O. or past records locally.
Last week a tourist was robbed while walking in the Saint Albans Drive area, which again is totally unheard of. If the government is not extremely proactive, there is a very real risk of these "new invisible criminals" causing real damage to the tourism product.
The sad part is this is just the tip of the iceberg as those "new criminals" from Abaco and Freeport get more and more daring when they discover the police are totally unable to do anything.
Another useless tragic loss of life due to people feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and stressed out over the state of our country!
Successive governments were much more interested in the welfare of Haitians than in Bahamians. The undeniable results shows Haitians have outpaced Bahamians financially per capita over the last 4 decades.
Haitians pushed Bahamians out by gaining major footholds in construction, domestic and small businesses.
The future looks totally bleak for too many Bahamians and progressively positive for Haitians in our country.
A frank conversation must be started on the existing apartheid mentality successive governments allowed employers to get away with under this false guise that there are no qualified Bahamians!
Lol....All of you in denial about the brain drain problem are the ones involved in this apartheid!
What you people are suggesting is that black Bahamians are not good enough and are too stupid to learn anything, so you have to bring in ex-pats. However, the same ex-pats you bring in and treat so well are then trained by Bahamians.
Huge numbers of Bahamians, have "lost" loved ones abroad that refused to return because of entrenched employment apartheid practices here. You ingrates have no idea what it feels like for parents to proudly make all sorts of sacrifices investing in educating children abroad only to have them refuse to return after graduating because of your apartheid practices.
Ironically, Gowon Bowe conveniently forgot to address the brain drain scenario which is the "real gross wider issue" as to why we have such a skills gap in the first place!
The brain drain especially affects black Bahamians regardless that they are well educated and trained locally and abroad. These Bahamians NEVER get the opportunities and nowhere near the remuneration employers so willingly offer to ex-pats!
It is common knowledge that Bahamians educated abroad refuse to return here because they know without question that ex-pats are overwhelmingly favored for the best high-end positions regardless if they are less qualified.
These same black Bahamians are sort after and snapped up many times even before graduating from universities by foreign corporations all over the world, and are well known abroad as serious, productive, leading employees.
A frank conversation must be started on the existing apartheid mentality successive governments allowed employers to get away with under this false guise that there are no qualified Bahamians!
@bahamian242...Lol.....Regardless of all being said here, nothing justifies giving away the country!
Successive governments foolishly created this problem. Now **we all** have to do whatever is necessary, bite the bullet, and suffer whatever short to medium term fallout arises until enough Bahamians develop the skills, demeanor, and work ethics to help with truly building our nation in the long term.
Continuing on our current course already unquestionably proved to lead to higher unemployment resulting in more crime!
@bahamian242...Everyone and their dog know the Filipinos educated their people well. But why do we need university graduate blue-collar domestic workers? You are still missing the point. If every Bahamian is lazy, D-average and fat remain irrelevant. Those are still not reasons to give the country away! We MUST find solutions and exceptions for your so-called lazy, D-average and fat Bahamians.
If you are the only Bahamian that's not lazy, D-average and fat, then we need to study you to determine how to help more Bahamians emulate your behavior. Giving the country away is NOT an option!
