Wow this is a lot of posts. All the ranting aside, I've not seen one article written by a Bahamian journalist with a real investigative approach on the matter. If we're gonna take the government to task I think we also need to challenge Smith. We are allowing both sides to feed information and write the narrative. Please can someone with a responsible pen write at least a halfway decent analysis of all this? For crying out loud we're tired of hearing the reports of bickering between the parties.

Very true Economist we do have obligations that we must meet. The challenge is these things are often double edged. The US who's doorstep we sit on is concerned about trafficking and terrorism. There have been numerous reports naming the Bahamas as a transhipment hub for human trafficking. Yet the moment we address the issue of illegal immigration which is a component of this smuggling ring we are called all sorts of names.

Good to see Bahamians standing up. We are being criticized from every side it seems. It is time for the intellectual community to challenge Fred Smith. This is no personal war between he and the minister. We as Bahamians must challenge these assertions and do so with evidence. He always finds himself in these contentious positions and is crying victim all the time.

What an idiot that guy is. Why even mention you're going in the pm's office. Just carry your a@#. This is what you get when inexperienced people are running the show. Money and experience are two different things. Say what you will about Sol, but he had a vision and the experience to bring Atlantis to completion. This joker on Cable Beach has no resort experience and simply does not have the right team it would appear. Problem after problem since the beginning. The website looks amateurish and cheap and you can't get the doors opened. This is exactly why we should never allow for the sale of certain pieces of land. People may lease, but the outright sale of prime real estate in the country is rubbish. We all would hope for the project's success. But, we are getting jerked around here.

You are mistaken. Standings up for human rights is never wrong, but when one has to conjure up evidence and lies it is absolutely wrong. Smith is unbelievably dishonest and it appears will do or say anything to get his way. To even make the comparison to Nazi camps is irresponsible and stupid. It is the behavior of someone not in touch with reality. You ask for the Bahamas to wake up. Well I'm happy to say we are awake and our eyes are opened. We are able to see clearly that illegal immigration is a serious issue. We are also able to see that the Haitian government is making no effort to alleviate the problem. That being the case, we must act in our own interests. People always forget there are no friends in international politics, only interests.

Fred Smith has some serious issues. He embarked on a course where he appears to want to boost his own image. A so called champion for human rights he wants to be remembered as. Many Bahamians are in agreement that human rights is important and we continue to be open to people from so many cultures dwelling in our country. Mr. Smith appears to be the only one kicking up a fuss and encouraging Haitians to be disobedient and break Bahamian laws. Since he is unable to get the response he wants from Haitians and from the opposition he resorts to bully tactics. We as Bahamians implore the government to be fair but firm in this matter. Immigration is not something new and we all recognize the value in having different cultures in our midst. But to simply ask us to roll over and pretend nothing is happening is foolish and not in the best interest of this country.

Stapedius says...

Interesting indeed. Mr. Smith is not getting the support from the opposition as he had hoped so he is now resorting to all kinds of tactics. You would be surprised who is behind this and who's agenda is being pushed here. Showing their true colours.

So true. @ Thisisours. The show could very well have done more to bring people together. In the face of an ongoing immigration challenge the hosts took a stance which appeared anti-Bahamian. That perhaps was not his intention, nevertheless it came across that way to many Bahamians. The other challenge it created was an uncertainty in the loyalty many Haitians in the country have for the country. We have a constitution which is not being taught in our schools. There is no knowledge or teaching of what a Bahamian should be. Yet we make the case for Creole to be taught in school. What a silly approach to commanding the respect for our system of governance and culture. I say civics courses should be mandatory teaching the constitution of this country. You cannot say you're Bahamian and your loyalty to another nation leads you to encourage circumvention or outright breaking of Bahamian laws. We must be our brothers keeper but, when your brother shows ingratitude and a new found contempt for you it must be checked.

Who says Fayne Thompson is prominent? That aside, crime is too high. It affects us all. The poor, rich and in between.

Rollins is right here. More money in a system that is poorly run will do nothing to improve healthcare. I believe that even without the NHI if proper quality control measures where adhered to we would have more efficiency and better patient outcomes. Throwing money at a run down, broken system is not the answer.
