People are outraged for no reason. We are too personal in the Bahamas. Who leaked it anyway? We have a nation of gossipers and news mongerors. We should be outraged that with the state of the institution. We should be outraged that successive presidents with all their so called expertise and skill couldn't achieve what Smith achieved in equal to or even greater the time spent in the position. Why can't we ever give someone credit in this country?
The Lyford Cay crowd you're talking about needs to be more concerned with their own business. Why weren't they so nosey when Hodder was there? Tell them to enlighten us all since they have the answers for everything.
Not a good look for Rollins. There are no friends in politics, only allies. He made more fuss over the issue than Wells and now he's opened a can of worms that he cannot control. Think before speaking. That has always been the problem with what HAI would call 'lil splinter groups.' Everytime a reporter sticks a mic in their face they find it necessary to say something.
This is exactly the reason one should be measured in how we react and respond. Mr. Rollins can and should handle himself better. Get a grip of your senses and be strategic in your thinking. You can't just keep spouting in the media. Sometimes its best to hold your tongue and wait for the right moment. So now you've made idle threats an absolute no no in politics. The moment the threatened gets the upper hand on you you're done for.
It is obvious that Rollins craves a Shylock revenge on the PLP. But it requires strategy and time. Like Shylock, Rollins has some villianous qualities which he appears to want to use but can't seem to keep it together. Interestingly, he is being portrayed in the media as Shylock was as the victim. So villian or vicitim. Who knows? Thank God for good literature because our politcians are not even smart enough to make for good news. Just a load of petty squabblers.
He says change but it sounds same old to me. Saturation patrols, police squads etc. We have to do two things in my opinion. First seriously invest in education and social development to stop breeding criminals. Second, eradicate the disease called 'guns,' which so many our country appear to have. There needs to be an all out assault on guns. There is no need for them in our society. Many of us have adopted this attitude as if owning a gun is a right. Well its not and we need to remove these weapons from our society as much as we can.
The issue from the start is that no one thought about the incidentals when this facility was being conceived. Its great that the former administration started the project, but the issue for both governments is that they didn't plan well. How could they budget for a healthcare facility but not think about the cost of equipment or staffing? It sounds rather silly to me. The FNM is saying open, open, open when, Dr. Minnis knows full well that its not that simple. Those of us in healthcare just sit back and let these politicians go on and on with rubbish. I'm all for the Critical Care Unit opening as soon as possible but we must conaider the risk we put our patients at if it is not properly run or staffed. It makes no sense just opening to please the public when the protocols and equipment are not in place to manage it. I don't see why the CCU is being seen as some panacea to all our healthcare problems. The fact is the whole system should be overhauled. The clinics are inefficient and poorly run. We do not have the level of training necessary in many departments and quite frankly the business adminstration do not know about healthcare economics and efficiency. Its a free for all. Minnis knows this full well.
This morning I heard Carlton Smith talking about the Ob/Gyn department and the mold there. What gets me is that this didn't just begin in the last year or so. The hospital has always had areas of mold and both these disgusting politcal parties have done nothing but point the finger. The hospital itself is poorly designed for the current healthcare needs of our population. We are trying to make due with a facility designed for a 1950s Bahamas in the 21st century. Our population has grown significantly as has the demand for good healthcare. The politicians need to stop the crap. Especially people like Minnis, BJ and others who have intricate knowledge of this system. They know full well the problems we've had for years under successive governments. Still its the same song and dance year after year.
Good for the government. They use these unions when its politcally convenient for them. The Cutoms folks are umming and arrring because their years of tiefing has dried up. When they work these overtime shifts it gave them room for under the table deals. The union is simply demanding too much for people that are really unskilled and with limited education. Many customs officers lack the basic education for many other jobs. Its frightening. Yet they expect pay greater than people who have spent money on education.
If Miller has a conflict of interest with BEC then so do we all. Just because his bill might be larger than yours we are judgemental. Any chairman appointed to the board BEC is conflicted as its the only power company in the country. He's not the first person in position to use his position to his advantage and he won't be the last. What annoys me is that the management at BEC never changes in all this. Miller has been chairman for a few years but as far as I can remember we've had power problems for the last 25 years or more. BEC is simply not capable of providing the quality of service necessary for a developing country. We need to stop bickering and making things political. Sell the junk, remove the politics and keep the lights on. A simple solution to a simple problem.
Not sure how politics has become a topic for discussion here considering the circumstances. We should all just simply give our condolonces, offer prayers if you wish and move on. Stop finding every opportunity to run on with political crap.
Rollins has a right to say what he wishes. Where I give him wrong is playing the political game in a stupid way. Politics is a long game, nevermind the short game and the headlines. It was an error on the PM's part in the first place to make him party whip. We have a bastardized Wesminister system in which we fool ourselves into think actually works. Mr. Rollins was not cut out to be Whip. The Whip has a significant role to play and he or she must no how to negotiate and collaborate even in the toughest situations. You don't just wild out like an idiot. One must play the game shrewdly and with patience. Where I also give him wrong is in his decision to attack Chrisitie when he was out of town. Now I'm no Chrisitie fan. I think he's a shabby leader. But I will say this, I believe in saying what I have to say eye to eye. You can't act like an ol gal and talk behind people back. Be man and say what you have to say to the dude in his face. LO AND Hubert would have chewed you up if you tried that. To disagree is only human. But Rollins is disappointing when it comes to how he maneuvers and handles difficult debate and decisions. He's a dentist and should know that when excising a cancer or extracting a tooth one must move carefully and thoroughly making sure that all the margins are removed. Otherwise you run the risk of a rapid bleed and infection which you then find hard to control. He has pulled a tooth and should've had the skill to control the bleeding.
Agree with your point on subsidies being provided to businesses. But you must admit our country has so many contradictions and unfair practices its unbelievable. For example, it could be argued that private media houses like Jones, The Tribune and Guardian should be exempt from certain broadcasting taxes. Reason being, ZNS which receives public funds to operate is still allowed to compete with private operators who have significant operating costs. My issue with our country is that we scrutinize things always with a politicl microscope rather than using a microscope of fairness and common sense. Why is Jones being targeted should be the story from these media houses when ZNS who we all pay for gives horrible service and has excessive waste? The fact is, all these media houses should refuse to pay the government a dime in taxes until ZNS stops solicitng for ads. Its ridiculous that these businesses are being asked to subsidize a competitor. ZNS is to heavy laiden with staff. Small staff, more technology. Cut, cut, cut. By now ZNS should have been a lean, mean broadcasting machine. Instead its lagged behind the times. Always three steps behind technology and a management structure from the stone age.
