Too many people in jail for non-violent crimes. Society is reaping what they have sowed by the inhumane way that prison is operated.
Want more criminal animals on the street? Keep treating our brothers & sisters like sub-human garbage while they are in jail. It is un-Christian and it has a bad effect.
Everyone has good points. The main problem is the inclusion of the new berth in this project. Its too much money and too big a % of overall.
Why not just spend like $10M fixing up the area and lets see what we get for that first?
Also why add another berth for people to come and see a hell hole? The done forger about that video the tourist made a couple years ago eh? Fix that first. Jesus, did these people even graduate kindergarten?
Trust me, they will "build another berth" first. It will have "unexplained" cost overruns (or the money will be in the infamous consolidated fund) and there will be no money left to even scoop up one load of horse shit, let alone "fix up the wharf".
No - it is really all about population expansion. As long as the population of the Earth expands, the environment will suffer. Humans need places to live, food to eat, and places to dispose of waste. If you environmentalists want to "save the environment" you need to join forces with the population control people and expand family choice programs etc. Otherwise, you will lose in the end - because governments respond to the votes of the majority of their constituents - and the majority of their constituents need to put food in their bellies, and so they need JOBS and they need them NOW. Get everyone to stop having babies for 2 years while we build wind farms, and then you might be on to something - otherwise - I hope - you will get out of the way and let this development save our near death island.
Sorry, but have to keep mentioning them because they hold political sway and do nothing except oppose the gay community. They don't care about anything except filling church pews - so teenage pregnancy is not a concern. Abstinence only (which anyone with eyes can see ain't working) is their only approved solution (because they know it isn't a solution).
Struggling families?
Young women unable to complete their education?
Infants and children malnourished, eating Ramen Noodles with weenie?
Lights out?
Water off?
Not their problem. Just be sure to pay your tithes though, so God will "bless you." Remember to "feel blessed" and "Thank God for Life." Don't worry they in Mercedes and you riding bus - pay them damn tithes and shut up.
The majority of people go to church every Sunday and do is, so I guess they love the status quo.
Bogart....excellent reference on the tuna guy getting more than a year in jail. This is why our prisons are so overcrowded and we have to let murderers and rapists out on bail.
Where is the Christian Council response on that story? I guess the kind of fish Jesus fed the multitude with wasn't tuna.
But if they found out he was gay they would have pressed the judge for 5 years.
They are correct that greater participation by commercial banks would help - but how about participation by the schools? Teach kids about this stuff so they don't get hoodwinked into foolishness (with balloons tied on them in the mall) the moment they can "show a pay-slip."
We also need legislation to establish a credit rating agency (like Experian) so that banks can make better decisions about who is and is not qualified, and also legislation to establish official bankruptcy (and enable the magistrates courts to do this for any amount below a million) so that banks are put on notice to stop their predatory lending practices on the poor - or else the courts will tell them too bad too sad for them.
There is a lot that can be done and should be done. This, however, is a good start, and I applaud this good news.
...and it will only get worse under a membership in the w.t.o. everyone needs to call their MP and other political contacts and ask them to OPPOSE any membership in W.T.O. (world trade organization) or any other international foolishness.
Unless, of course, we want to go back to slavery days. It's a choice.

Obviously it hasn't been reducing crime.
