Irrelevant ? You said "Apparently, though, some of us would prefer just hang up the flag and become the 51st state.". I'm saying, yes, I am one of those persons.
Yes. 51st state. What a nice idea. Then we can get rid of some of these darn potholes and your mail can arrive in less than 6 months, and you can get a court date in less than 2 years, and your probate of a Will can take less than 10 years, and your oil spills can be monitored by someone other than the oil company itself, and .......................................... x 1,000,000. It is just amazing to me, to know that there are people like you out there (and yes, there are a lot of you) who actually think anything in the Bahamas is "normal" and the way it should be. It is said, that the best slave is a slave who doesn't know he is a slave. That was written before you were born though. A prophesy?
Yes, well why don't you recommend to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that we prevent all American citizens from entering the Bahamas, and we prevent all American goods or services from entering the Bahamas, and we jail for one year any Bahamian who is found to have entered into the USA or its territorial waters after the new law is passed. Yeah. Let's do that. Can we do it tomorrow? Then all of you "independent" people who hate America can live happy with your conch slop.
The government could fix out educational system in two easy steps :
1. Change the grades that are given out from a b c d e f g u to simply A B C D F - that way C will be the average grade.
2. Stop creating stupid ignorant syllabus for subjects - where no books exist anywhere on the planet Earth that cover that syllabus. It is time for government to realize that 2+2=4 here in the Bahamas, the same way it does in Miami or in Jamaica, or in New Zealand, or in Canada. Teachers have no resources with which to teach. The syllabus is also so broad and ridiculously comprehensive that there is no way it can be taught even in 5 years.
It's time to come up with a list of sensible, practical, and useful things that are kids can learn in a reasonable amount of time - that will help them in life - and let that be the syllabus and find a books that reasonably covers that material and get on with it.
This idea of having to be "independent" in everything we do (like we can't even have the 911 emergency number in the Bahamas, we have to have 919) - is very STUPID and is killing out children and their futures.
News Flash : 2 + 2 does equal 4 in the Bahamas, whether the government wants to admit it or not.
At least now they have some building materials that they can now struggle to follow the building codes that the MP spoke about last week. Otherwise his statement would have been moot. Maybe Rotary can also design and print out some complicated forms for the people to fill out in order to get these supplies - just like the Form A and Form C and whatever else they have to fill out with Customs and NEMA etc.
Maybe some other group can come along and help government think of other creative ways to harass the good people of East End? How about holding a national competition with prizes of $1000, $500, and $250 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for people to come up with the stupidest rules and regulations and bureaucracy that citizens can be forced to follow?
They should allow us to renew our license up to a year early. Then we could get the 3 year license and renew every 2 years. Then u have a whole year valid license while u wait for plastic to come from Saudi Arabia. But they say you can only renew how early?
Yes, you are correct. But why is the Deputy Prime Minister singling out the people of East End? All the PLP has to do to win that seat next time, is set up a big projector screen by the ferry dock and let the population there come out and see a half hour video of the shanty towns in Abaco being leveled by the hurricane, being cleared flat and clean by government paid tractors, and they the very same type buildings being back in place a few months later. Then show interviews of residents in East End telling their 60 second story (each) of their interaction with MOW and other various agencies and the red tape they had to go through to rebuild their Bahamian homes. Slam dunk. Bush crack, Peter gone.
I could not even begin to comment on this article in less than 5000 words, and I know that nobody would read it. Most parents are really just looking for a baby-sitting service. If government wants to win re-election hands down - just change the time school gets out to 5pm. All working parents will vote for you.
no. you are wrong. And this is where we ALWAYS get into this bickering back and forth about Haitians and then Bahamians get accused of being racist. There is nothing racist about it. Here in this article, East End is being informed by the DPM himself (yes he is their MP) that they must follow building codes.
You wait and see what the aerial photo looks like by December 15th of The Mudd and The Peas in Abaco - and the one up by Treasure Cay. The same old structures will be right back in place. Guaranteed.
They will be in those 3 shanty towns, preparing to cook their Christmas turkeys - meanwhile, Bahamians in East End will still be waiting on "final approval" from MOW and an "Occupancy Permit".
