The speaker has every right to use his power to voice his opinion. Unless you guys want Dr. Minnis (the most honourable) to be a Dictator and nobody can speak out of line?
Apparently the Bahamas is following directly behind the USA where nowadays in colleges across the country, the idea of "free speech" means "the right to say agreeable, nice sounding things."
I heard Trump has been trying to dismantle the EPA is the states for the same reason. All oil companies just have a built in moral compass that is no way tied to money. They want to do the right thing. They will do the right thing? Do you think there might be some oil molecules in your water? You are wrong !!!!!!!!!!! There are none !!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything is under control, with safety to the highest standards. Relax yaseff. Dis the Bahamas, and erryting iree.
Why are people asking so many questions. If they would spend the first 6 months minding their own business and the second 6 months keeping out of other peoples' business then their year will go much better.
While i applaud the Minister for his success, and it is, it is not that remarkable since there is only one major road in Abaco. It is about 1000 feet long and connects the harbour to The Mudd. Im sure was pushed clear at the same time as that shanty town was cleared. So this is not really news although it is very good to hear. We need all the positive stories we can get these days.
So the report might have a delay. It was supposed to be submitted in April, but then we wanted to go to Canada and we really wanted to go to Jamaica - so that might pose some minor delay - but not a real delay because we could do a preliminary report and then have a supplemental report, but we really need to get down to Jamaica. We have been walking the streets and asking the people their opinions and we tried to get some town halls put together - but well, actually we had some town halls - but we need more consultation with the people. If we could have gotten down to Jamaica (but that was delayed), they have certain info that they know about how this can be correctly implemented. Canada, yes, but the people we are meeting with are helping. We are planning to go to Jamaica, and a request has been submitted for that. There are other viewpoints that we are exploring - to have a comprehensive report, but it might be thoroughly comprehensive. Jamaica is where the real information is, and we are trying to get there. So it will all come together in short order, not much delay. Did I mention Jamaica?
Yes - it is their land. They have been squatting on it for 40+ years. Bahamians have accepted them as members of the community, offering them employment, electricity, selling to them fuel to run their generators, selling food to them from the food stores. Having them work both legally and illegally as gardeners and sheet rock installers, carpenters, you name it. They ride freely without any inconvenience or question on the several ferries that travel back and forth to Guana Cay and Hope Town twice daily. Employers seek them out actively - and if they mistakenly hire one of them whose paperwork is not quite fully completed, the government is kind enough not to charge the employer any fine for such a minor error. So now to suggest that they just appeared one week before the hurricane and have no rights / claims is simply unjust. They are desired by the Bahamian people individually and the business community at large. They have been welcomed. I have heard of Bahamian vessels being made to pull off from the dock to make room for a Haitian sloop to discharge/load goods. The gate to the dock is left open on weekends for these goods to come and go without any inspection of officers that work from Monday to Friday. These things have been going on for decades. So the "surprise" at their residence status and employment status, and central position and importance in the heart of downtown Marsh Harbour must surely be fake. Nobody should be surprised. The law will find that the land belongs to them - and long before that happens, their homes will be rebuilt. Their homes will be back in place well before Christmas. And so it should be. I see no issue with them living comfortably near their places of employment. No issue whatsoever. Bahamians should also be happy that they are getting brand new igloos to ride out the winter down near Spring City, where the fresh springs of water flow and the cool breeze in the winter pines will be buffeted by the Nordic design of the igloos. A win-win for all Abaconians.
Sheeprunner can get the National Sheep Runner's Award, and you can get the Next to A Deity Award if you can bring that goat back to life that died up near the oil storage in East End G.B. :-) I gah fill out ya nomination cards tomorrow morning.
