I agree with you completely. I guess I was trying to make a point that if there was something we could do to make the country better - maybe people wouldn't be so upset all the time.

Of course, there is nothing we can do. I've often though how nice it would be it we had elections every 2 years - but many friends and coworkers have shot the idea down saying - 1. that's too often for them to ink their finger, and 2. no govt can get anything done in such a short time.

However, I say any Govt can get "some" things done, and explain to the people (and show them the proof) of what they have gotten done so far on longer projects. People understand that some things take 3 or 4 years to get done, and if they feel that 40% or 50% of the thing has been done during the current term in office, they would gladly vote them in for another term to get the thing done.

five years is just too long to do foolery without consequences. None of us can tell our boss (while sitting on our backsides) - hey boss what you gettin upset about - you know I can't really get much done in 2 years. It's too short !!!! LOL.

At least Bran is offering Bahamians a choice AGAIN. A choice which only 8% of voters had enough sense to take last time.

With all the down-turned economy in Freeport and many parts of Nassau (and Long Island and Eleuthera) - it is unbelievable that Bahamians did not see fit to give the DNA even ONE seat - so they could at least speak during Parliament and offer up alternative ideas and rebuttal.

But Bahamians don't like change, and I'm sure many would rejoice should Pindling rise from the grave tonight and walk into the PMs office tomorrow morning and seize again the reigns of power.

The joy of backward movement is one of the greatest joys that Bahamians experience in this lifetime.

The STUPID thing about the VAT filing process is that you don't have to declare the TIN# of your suppliers and how much you bought from them. I'm not talking about silly little purchases of pens and pencils or light bulbs - I mean your major suppliers.

The whole idea, originally I thought, was that VAT was a system where everyone was their brother's keeper.

For example, a wholesaler declares VAT credits (due to payments at Customs) indicating that they imported $20 million worth of goods for the quarter. 87 retailers (who purchase from that wholesaler) altogether declare that they have purchased from that wholesaler a grand total of $57 million in goods. Well, even at an average 100% mark-up the wholesaler should have only sold $40 million dollars worth locally. So how did the retailers purchase the additional $17 million? Were those goods that the wholesaler had in inventory already? Or were they smuggled in through South Beach? Or does the wholesaler have a "friend" in Customs?

Of course, it's not an exact system (due to the inventory buffer) - but over time it would become clear whether or not 2 + 2 = 4 in the grand scheme of things.

However, without ANY filing information about which TIN is selling to which TIN (even though all invoices have to have both TIN#'s on them) - there is no way to even begin to see what is going on.

Because of this, it is clear that there really is no desire by Govt to stomp out corruption, and this new accountant thing is merely a tool they will use to shut down businesses operated/owned by members of opposing political parties.

I think many are going to be shocked upon entering Heaven and discovering God indeed wants His children to be happy, that He will admit to creating the genitals and not blame them on the Devil, and that moreover He actually has a sense of humor.

Absolutely correct. I all this whole thing NHI = New Haitian Insurance. They see how many NEW Haitians are arriving every week in this country and they know that the PMH (already full of them) cannot provide enough care to the Haitians that are already here, so they need MORE money for the NEW Haitians. That is why they want NHI. New Haitian Insurance. Simple.

Don't worry - the Bahamian people will put the FNM back in power next election because they LOVED them so much last time. There are only two choices (fnm and plp) in the mind of a Bahamian which is a mind that has built-in limitations planted there by the school system.

Maybe they are upset about the additional debt to themselves, their children, and grandchildren that the Government's latest budget has placed on their backs?

Making more possible for Bahamians? Wow. There's an idea. Hopefully the Govt won't have them all killed.
