The Bahamian healthcare system needs to undergo a forensic Autopsy. Follow the money, dig deep. Nurses and other workers are at the tail end of the mess, preyed upon by the unions, also needing a forensic Autopsy.
There was a plan a few years ago for a university type housing "village" Either wasn't enough political slush money in it or It was a really good idea therefore to be completely ignored. So predictable, the wrong turns they consistently take in every regard.
About time they realize successive administrations have been completely negligent in being transparent with the private sector and the public at large on this, and the Chamber needs to be aggressive in calling the Govt out. But no wonder as each 5 year election cycle stalls the process and replaces the players negotiating on our behalf. Each administration must throw away all the documents when they leave office, leaving the incoming at a total loss. How stupid they must look going back and asking "what is our country's position please?" Hell of a way to run a country into a brick wall.
I think the floppy discs reference was an analogy to the general age and state of the plants. All these has been former contributing Politicians and "experts" aught to shut up and hang heads in shame. Contributing Negligence, incompetence, avarice and sloth.
Ever noticed at the convenience stores, early morning school run parents running in to buy chips, cookies, sweet drinks, vienna sausage, salty sausage, anything but healthy food for school lunch? Therein lies the problem.
Having recently walked the eastern shores of a few islands of the Exumas I can tell you the plastic is everywhere. Even cruising Nassau to G.B. I counted a bucket, two styrofoam cups and a few other debris items unidentifiable. Plastic broken down into microscopic particles is found in fish meat, not just digestive systems. Such a scourge on the environment but entirely due to human action. At the same time, plastics represent one of the greatest solutions for food safety, medical safety, and all manner of products that today we could not live without. Alas, enforcement across the board is our national failing. Simply banning certain uses will probably only raise money for the treasury.(back to enforcement) Nor will any of that money go towards clean up or investment in waste plastic to fuel/energy conversion. The learning curve will be steep.
A Perfect example of politicians/politics being the creators of problems, never the solutions. Brave adding hot air when his party kicked the issue down the road as much as anyone else. BEC is one of many Bahamian legacy disasters.
No Problem with a Balloon release Ban, late by decades, as usual. The rest? George Orwell would be proud! Watch out for the plastics police! $3000/2000/ and $700 daily fines aught to apply to Littering in General. The Exemption list proves the worth of plastics in daily life, so the issue is with people!
Funny thing is Business difficulties most often arise under an FNM administration. In their rush to comply with all the international demands they are strangling the domestic chicken. The PLP on the other hand ignore or kick the foreign compliance demands down the road but generally are too busy tielfing and contract awarding to bother with legitimate businesses. I can tell you one thing, Starting a new business isn't easy or quick, between Govt, Banks, Registrar Gen, NIB, VAT, et al. When established concerns start screaming It is time to re-evaluate what we are doing.
