Lip service, they're gonna do what they're gonna do anyway. Seems they'll give the industrials a cut rate by putting it onto the other commercial Customers? Might be a lawsuit on that one, discriminatory practices aught not be. Middle class residential rate is going up to offset a lower residential base rate. Like a game of cups, everyone loses.
Listen, blaming red shirts or Yellow bellies is the first distraction: They are both made up of Bahamians who either are a) stupid, b) arrogant c) crooked d) greedy e) all of the above, who have made repeated wrong decisions over the last 40+ years which have landed us right where we are. (And we deserve it, cause we all danced in the streets with one or the other) All the while destroying the structures of Government left to us by The British Empire. For better or worse it is what we had, and we have replaced it with nepotism, tribalism, persecution, pilfering, (land, treasury, other peoples property and destroying personal initiative) and we like shooting messengers. We hire foreign consultants ad nauseam and ignore their findings, twist reports beyond recognition and present the latest folly as sent from above. The foreign consultants go away paid in full so they are happy and could care less how you use their reports. Did I mention kickbacks? I am led to believe the latest is tied into the ATR-600 aircraft recently purchased for Bahamasair. Who got that refund? Ministry of tourism advertising kickbacks? The extraordinary cost per Sq Ft the government pays to build anything including outhouses! for once and for all, it is the un-ethical, thieving lying Bahamian people we elect that is the #1 problem, and the crooked civil servants that go along with them like fries with the KFC! And until that calibre of people is drastically improved, it is going to get worse and worse! Because there is less and less to steal. Less foreigners to nickel, dime, and rip off and a smaller Bahamian working middle class.
It will shift the "denial of service" to the PMH and raise your tax burden. Actually increase the denial of service as there is already plenty of that.
The Pope just said it,( on his African visit, but it applies here) "Corruption leads to Tribalism". When you forsake the rule of law for Rule by personality, Or tribalism, you no longer go "by the grace of God" you subject yourselves to the whim of men. Rule by authority, with all equal under the law, to some not so equal as others.
And what decent law abiding non tiefin respectable citizen would get involved with either FNM, PLP or their spinoffs? Bahamian Politics attracts the most unscrupulous shameless bunch of individuals. 40+ years on and it is still a textbook example of self Governance gone wrong.
Turning their back? Anyone who has already installed solar panel has been stabbed in the back! Solar power has been in use/existence in the Bahamas for 40 years, in places BEC did not serve until the last decade! Now all of a sudden it is Illegal, then allowed in very limited size, then not allowed again! But this situation is but a microcosm of the general and pervasive idiocy and stupidity in Government. Can someone with a drone go video the P.M's Solar system please? Let us "shed some light" on this hypocrisy.
No surprise, Their Net Metering (RESG) program was half baked to begin with, preventing private commercial entities from participating and limiting residential output. I do not think Power Secure or BPL wants to be left with Non Paying Customers, as anyone with the means to self Generate will, which leaves the "politically Connected". (Pardon the Pun). The non paying customers. So, It is really not about energy Self sufficiency house by house, commercial building by building throughout the private sector. It is all about BEC and profitability, and the political designs on it. Insofar as they have allowed some systems to be grid tied, one would think they are now "grandfathered in" and have no bearing on whatever "policy" they come up with near or far term. Compliance can be had once you know what you're complying with. Cart and Horse? yeah, they've hitched the front of the horse to the back of the cart as usual!
Funny how we miss the whole point of the Visit: "(CHOGM) and engage in talks with a multinational conglomerate over this country’s business license and real property tax laws." Basically we have to bring our real property tax laws in line with the EU EPA laws, under WTO compliance. Meaning Bahamians will pay on ALL property owned, undeveloped and out Island included, just as foreigners do. All scheduled a few years ago and on a fixed timeline. Most favored nation Status means there can be no favorites. All of this is what is driving the unprecedented internal pilfering and scamming, they cannot do any of it internationally in the traditional way of old. Tourism kickbacks, foreign bank accounts, all getting harder to deposit to and maintain.
