Anyone who would blame one political party or the other need only look in a mirror to see a main contributor. How did we get here? We assumed the Authority for ourselves without taking responsibility for ourselves, we dismantled the clerical system of colonial rule and replaced it with political minions, willing to do the bidding of the new master. we burned the rules of conduct and threw out the Barbadian prison officers, Jamaican police officers, and infiltrated the judiciary with our new found power and influence. Permanent Secretaries became disposable, shuffle-able, as much as Incompetent cabinet ministers. And all the while, the rot crept up while the corruption crept down. To fix any of this requires the admission of guilt, Failure, fraud. I do not believe we will ever concede that we have lost, failed, as the fraud/graft/kickback pays too well. And the power corrupts them all.
Au Contraire Mr. Rolle, there has been a National plan, it just has not been for the country's benefit! The plan has been simple and well implemented: Steal as much as you can while in office! Dismantle the rule of law so there is no prosecution for stealing! And so, how will the "New Plan" co-exist with the old (and still thriving ) plan?
Like it or not, what is free will always be in short supply. Someone, somewhere, will have to decide when to stop treatment, if treatment should start, and who deserves treatment, based upon some criteria. Up until now, these decisions have been made by the patient themselves, and their doctors. Do they need it, do they want it, can they afford it, do they have insurance, will it work. To turn healthcare over to Governments with the track records ours have is insanity.
Those who would trade Freedom for security from their Government, usually gain nothing but lose much. The Government is powerless to do anything but preside over the decline of their own creation, and promise even more futile solutions.
Unlike Cable Bahamas, which serves inside of and outside of Freeport proper, but via separate companies licensed by the relevant authorities in each jurisdiction. Grand Bahamas Power does not have separate companies. Ingraham created the potential for this situation by allowing A) the sale of West End Power And light to Freeport Power B) the sale of Freeport Power to Southern Electric and C) the expansion of Freeport Power outside of the Port Area via A. Outside the Port area should have always been subject to URCA/Government Regulation, but the Port is the regulator within the Port. More erosion of the H.C.A.
Miserable failure, this has been building for 40+ years, had we learned from Taiwan with respect of enforcement of all the laws, proper due (and timely ) process of law, we would still be complaining but over a greatly diminished problem. Apparently we cannot govern ourselves, either personally or Governmentally.
Helicopters folks, can be anywhere in Nassau in 2 minutes flat if airborne. Not to mention patrols for illegal immigrants landing, stolen vehicles in the bushes, canals, hard to escape the eyes in the sky. B.K. Bonamy asked for them way back when, but politically it was quashed. Ask A.D. Hanna why, and Frank Watson. What were they scared of? Perhaps a police Commissioner that would be able to get ahead of crime? Go Find B.K's speech at COB, he called for it, he attended a caribbean conference on crime, he was told directly what was coming from the southern neighbors, including the message that they did not act, but that we had a chance to get it right. Why was his message ignored?
And so, once you have curtailed our freedom to move around (and possibly freedom of association as mentioned a few months ago) when will we get these Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms back? When crime is reduced? by how much? Eliminated? I put it to you that they will never be restored. And crime will not be diminished by these measures either. You have cultivated, ignored, and participated for the last 47 years, You have politicized the police force, the Judiciary, and created this society, built on a lack of responsibility, lack of accountability, a lack of transparency. From the top down.
In leading by example they have created lawlessness, at every level of society. Those without morals and ethics are the true party members. Now you would contravene the constitution to implement total control? Not that any of you have truly observed or obeyed the Constitution but, Full on tribal rule without recourse will result in more mayhem. When they start attacking politicians and senior Civil Servants, you will simply all arm yourselves, while keeping the population disarmed and subject to your own brand of Ton Ton Macoute. The writing is on the wall folks.
