Ok so some confusion is in fact reigning, with respect of businesses closing which in Nassau and Grand Bahama are not, and probably not in Abaco either.
Apparently NEMA has modified their earlier edict of closure at 1pm, but not publicly.
Meanwhile stupidity is running rampant on social media while Joaquin moves away from Nassau and the Northern Bahamas complaining about having to stay at work.
Bahamian overriding principle in action: When in doubt, go home, why work!
Greedy bosses, shop owners, etc etc yadda yadda yadda.

The_Oracle says...

Sorry to inform but Government Gave NEMA the power to not only dictate but also to confiscate, issue summary conviction, detain, and appropriate private property.
Apparently the issuing of clear concise edicts is not required, nor is intelligence at the top.
So here we have the Northern Bahamas where no one has been prepping, about to start trying to obtain food, water, supplies but cut off from doing so by their own Government who requires stores to be closed.( or do they? who the hell knows. I'll bet Capt. Russell knows his backside is the scapegoat though, hence the over reaction with no clarity.)
Smooth move. Typical.

Can we get some clarification on the most recent edict (per NEMA) on private sector closure at 1 pm Friday? Government offices and schools they can do what they want, and often do but
Nationwide? Nassau? Abaco? Grand Bahama? Is this Mandatory? Is NEMA empowered to enforce? time to educate and clarify.

Was he not expelled from school for not learning?
seems he is consistent.
For him to now be "admonishing" anyone is ludicrous.
(his word not mine.)

The committee was a sham, cherry picking Licenses to consult.
Standard Government Government practice.
Many Major Licenses were avoided and not consulted with.
That the G.B. Chamber president allowed himself to get sucked into colluding with the Committee by sitting on it is itself questionable.
The Chamber President has the report, but is withholding it from the Business community that elected him to serve them and his board of directors.
At the end of the day, the Government is paying lip service to the Licensees and public at large, as they will do what they want in any case.

Will there be a story on the incident/accident which took his life?
I am lead to believe the captain leapt out of the boat before the impact with the dock!
Disgraceful if so.
The rate at which Defense force equipment is destroyed is alarming
indicating incompetence. I applaud those who volunteer to serve, especially this young man who gave his life.

It is about time that the Port Authority embrace its licensees properly,
as without them they would have nothing.
Without the Port to administer the port area,
Freeport would soon look decrepit and abandoned, like much of Nassau.
The Government has been the biggest impediment to Grand Bahama's development,
and continues to be to this day.
The Port Ownership must realize that its cozy familial relationship
with the Government is done.

“I refuse to grant stay for an injunction. The court finds it inappropriate to interfere in the decision making process of the Cabinet at this time,” Justice Weekes said on Friday.
Having received her political directive from the AG or P.M.'s office no doubt.
Another shining example of the decay of the rule of law in the Bahamas.
In what way does this interfere with Cabinet?
It seeks information on what the hell they're doing which affects bahamians!

So Wayne Monroe, newly minted PLP wannabe,
is representing the Police assn. against the Government he just joined?
Can we say "conflicted?"

Until we stop hanging on everything that dribbles out of these self serving malfeasant's mouths the Bahamas is trapped in a dead end game.
Until the effort is made to seize the ill gotten gains these politicians of all stripes have stolen from the People of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas,
we will be broke and in debt as a country.
