A vehicle I just purchased in the U.S. (to stay there) was $23k, second to top trim level.
Same exact vehicle but lower trim level here: $42k
85% duty I'm told.
This is no luxury euro tank or SUV,
this is what I'd call a mid sized U.S. model no frills car.
now add 7.5+% VAT?
Insane.
And now back to your regularly programmed downward spiral!

I seriously doubt the figures can be trusted,
after all, the Budget communication was all about lumping expenditures together into
vague and obscure hyperbole.

The_Oracle says...

If VAT is value added, how the hell is value added to property year by year aside the real estate incremental value rise?
The Bahamas has been living beyond their means for decades,
Partially and apparently by not paying bills!
Time to pay the piper.
Standards of living and personal accountability will slide further and further
down the slippery slope.
That the General population and particularly the Business community
is not screaming bloody murder astounds me,
but they will be soon enough.
Just far too late.

"However, Mr Miller said “he is fighting” to stop the disconnections that will affect thousands of customers because it is “hypocritical” and “goes against the mandate of the PLP”.
Let's get this right, The mandate of the PLP is to alleviate any personal responsibility for one's bills, and for government to cover same with taxpayer burden?
Now who is being hypocritical?
It is a truism that the PLP duck and dodge personal accountability at every turn,
but there seems to be no sense left, they degenerating into free fall, unfortunately taking the country with them!
Mr. Miller, you made, and continue to make the correlation that businesses should not be disconnected as they employ etc etc and there are many businesses that do not or cannot pay....
Can you please name and shame them as you were so named and shamed?
I think the public should know,
and If a dozen of you step up to pay once shamed,
BEC could benefit from millions in revenue made good!

The_Oracle says...

Yeah, so where are all the other Bahamians who should be standing up ?
Hiding no doubt.
Bahamians need to realize that those we elect are to uphold the law,
not become law unto themselves.
Never have I seen people so unfit to govern, irrespective of party blindness.
Of course if the courts were free of political interference/appointments..........

The_Oracle says...

Not at all surprising given the Ton Ton Macoute attitude that many officers have.
Completely unable to deal with the out of the ordinary situation,
completely ignorant of the law, but well trained in thuggery.
In any case, she got a decent ride compared to Haitians, Philippines.
Put them in pink jumpsuits instead of their pseudo military drab.
Might give them a much needed dose of humility.

The_Oracle says...

We really are sinking to depths previously unknown, even by PLP standards.
No shame individually, collectively, PLP business as usual but tenfold.
As for the country deciding anything, how could they when all revolves around the upper echelon "my turn" mentality?

The_Oracle says...

Nightmares........

The_Oracle says...

And none of the above are being handled properly, nor will they run properly,
but the Politicians will still profit, and ride on the backs of suppressed Bahamians.
I do not want the Government in charge of my healthcare,
we shall see the Miller/BEC cut off rules applied!
