Is it not a PLP stalwart who is the Bahamian owner?
Hmmmm, this could get tricky.
Yet another burning bush.

The_Oracle says...

You can always skim off a foreigners contract, not so easy with a Bahamian as the truth will always out, and one will screw the other.
There are many who were never taught that lesson in school!
The truth will always out.
In any case, he now claims in the other daily that it was the bank he was helping, not his friend, Lightbourne.
Aside that, the banks cannot be seen to be bending contractual agreements, or the flood gates will be opened.
There are no decision makers left in the banks locally anyway.

The sad thing is they do not even see their error, charging for something donated to the people of the Bahamas.
Waste cases.

Nero Fiddled while Rome Burned.....
We are a constitutional Monarchy, with Democratic Voting rights.
We have the rule of law and constitution outlining rights, protections and obligations!
Which we have and continue to ignore. (at our own peril)
This foolishness follows the idiocy of the elected predominant since independence,
throwing out the existing system and replacing it with petty arbitrary garbage.
Note most deposed leaders of other countries spent their last days in their Palaces....
surrounded by their pillaged treasures.
Whom the Gods would destroy,
they first make mad.

On Time for a new Parliament?

Yes Rev Meadows, we eat our own.
Having said that, usually where there is smoke there is fire, and time will tell.
Quite frankly I have seen nothing good come out of the Christian Council for decades.
Jockeying for power over the minds of Bahamians, wielding political power
for the purposes of control, access to wealth, exiting wealthy like politicians.
and the screaming from the pulpit!
Good Lord, speak intelligently, with conviction, not convulsions!

Meanwhile, revenue collection at the border drops by 50% as payback!
Incompetents at the helm, incompetents through the ranks.

The_Oracle says...

A total 100% IMF stooge.
“VAT will ease the collection of government revenue and simplify our tax system."
Our tax system is about as simple as it can get right now.
Everything comes in over the border, all they have to do is collect,
which admittedly seems beyond their capabilities.
Then on top of this, we have 150 N.I.B. Managers?!

The_Oracle says...

I love the way they write new laws, IE, in the criminal code,
but fail to enforce or enact!
Same with Taxation, the same dodgers will dodge!
No arrears will get collected.
the same few will pay......
tings tough becomes a viable defense apparently.

The_Oracle says...

Fiscal reform is probably the most important aspect of all of this,
we know the Government can waste money and resources like there is no tomorrow, (except tomorrow apparently reach)
increasing revenue will do nothing for the National debt with these (or the other) clowns in charge.
Focus on what the constitution declares the Governments areas of responsibility are,
cut out all the fluff used for vote buying and political patronage.
I agree that implementation will be easier if the focus is on procedures and not revenue,
as we all know they will up it ASAP, and repeatedly.
The Governments position is "we're bleeding, you should also, or instead"
ridiculous.

On PM: VAT Rate to be lower than 15%

He still has to get approval from the IMF on this,
and they won't be happy and may say NO.
Besides, once implemented, if even at 5%, Govt can adjust it upwards at will.
Ask the peoples of any other nation that has implemented it.
The logistical nightmare will remain no matter the %.
