The Red of the Bull, the cowardice of the yellow, in all decent purpose, no point in either fellow!
That large numbers of our best and brightest leave to pursue higher education abroad, and do not return speaks to their individual tenacity and sensibility! Public school systems the world over have failed, ours is no different.
We as a country do not value individual capability, we fear it. We do not encourage independent though and risk, We suffocate it before it emerges. We are not honest with ourselves about ourselves, We laugh it off and explain it away as How things go. We are loud, with no content. Constantly looking to divert blame elsewhere, We solve nothing. We defer payments, obligations, responsibility, and live like there is no tomorrow.
What smart (Idiot) would run for Politics? The well meaning intelligent person would be side lined/thrown under the political bus faster than you could blink, as these people are masters at Character assassination. Whatever well meaning intent may have driven an individual to participate would soon be extinguished by the Ulterior motives, positioning for personal gain and Devious behavior of Party members. (both parties) Their Common mantra in practice is "let no good deed go unpunished! It is no wonder that the people of the Business Community have shrunk into the background. Someone has to make sure the supply lines of food and hard goods actually flow! An uphill and endless battle as it stands.
Unfortunately the "elected" are masters of one thing only: Unintended Consequences. The appointed/Civil Servants have become masters of self preservation. They can look easily enough at what they want, but fail to consider the ramifications of their actions. Back stepping, back tracking, flip flopping, finger pointing, each individually trying to distance themselves from the backlash that occurs all too frequently. In all reality they seem to function at grade school level. Pay attention to food store prices this week compared to last week folks, The up to 5000% increase in Trailer clearing costs is going to show up at the check out. In other retail outlets it will be more gradual and larger due to the "environmental fees".
With the track records of spending, and commitments to foreign entities and Governments, they will not be rescinding anything, they have more to implement.
Unfortunately, the Bahamian private sector has decided to bury their heads in the sand rather than demand answers and accountability. The private sector will pay for their voluntary abdication/absence, The Government will pay with reduced revenue, The citizens will pay the dearest of all. The stateless oecd, wto, eu-epa bureaucrats run the show now. WE are in no position to turn around, and have already begged off of and missed various deadlines on commitments that we agreed to. Ask the realtors about Foreign purchasers refuting that they must pay real property tax: Per EU-EPA, they do not have to, via non discrimination clauses. Will either Government exempt them, as Bahamians are, or will they tax us all...........
Ingraham and Laing signed on to the EU-EPA and Carib-Can, termed super WTO trade agreements, which requires changes like these and more. Much more. Duty has to go away, our taxes have to be structured to be compatible. Reciprocity, Most favored nation, trade Liberalization, non discriminatory treatment and other terms that basically mean Foreigners from these signatory countries cannot be treated different than Bahamians. PLP have just walked into it backwards, as usual. Still more to come, don't fret yet!
If this is an environmental "fee" for difficult to dispose of items, then the money better not be going into the consolidated fund! It should go towards equipping the dump to deal with these things, And Putting the annual fires out!! Otherwise, it is nothing short of fraud.
I can't believe people are getting so excited by either of the Idiots. This is precisely the problem in the Country: We the people do not have an original thought in our heads, Lap up this drivel like no tomorrow, but love the dog fights!!
Bad premises abound here, I think the school would be justified if they can show that not a single one of the kids in that graduating class was a good student or that every one of them was involved in whatever caused the general "Smoting" If they can, then I'd be looking for a general refund of all fees paid!
However, schools have become very adept at nickel and diming parents and students alike over and above School and book fees. Follow the money! Theft is theft, accepting the funds amounts to a contract. An unfulfilled contract in this case.
